View Full Version : Classic cars needed for Stannington Carnival
Did you know that there is a competition for Classic Cars to be held at this year's Stannington Carnival to be held on Saturday, 8th July? Entry is free but you must commit to leaving your car on display until the competition is judged.
Add a note here if you want to have your car included giving details of make, year, etc.
When I get an idea of how many are interested I'll get application forms out to you.
LadyInRed 22-04-2006, 08:36 Have you thought about contacting Surr Cars on Rowell Lane?
pm skatiechick & her crew.
i've just sold mine otherwise i would have been interested.
might still pop along on the day
Skatiechik 22-04-2006, 23:35 Not sure if ours will be ready yet, is there a deadline?
Not sure if ours will be ready yet, is there a deadline?
No deadline as yet. I just need to know makes and models.
bernie54 23-04-2006, 13:02 I am interested in attending stannington carnival. I have a MG BGT, 1980
I can bring a couple of cars along. We have a 1980 Ford Fiesta and a 1984 Ford Sierra XR4i. I know the Sierra isn,t technically a classic yet but most people class it as one.
goldenfleece 02-05-2006, 08:54 We have a collection of old Fiestas, 1977, 1981 and 1982 if interested. 2 are in NEAR 'new' condition, but are in need of a little work.
Have you got any pictures of them. Always interested in adding to the collection.
Our MK1 is in very good nick but needs a few things doing. She always creates a stir wherever we go in her. Can't just nip to the shops without someone asking about her.
goldenfleece 10-05-2006, 16:22 no current pix available, the two bright gold ons attract loads of attention in sunlight, they gleam so brightly...What is yours. what model/version?
The 1980 Fiesta is MK1 957cc L model. It's done about 37000 miles. It's painted in Crystal Green and has got chrome bumpers and window trims. Being quite a basic model it hasn't got any electric toys, it didn't even have a stereo when grandmother bought it brand new. That soon got sorted though. Other than the stereo though it is standard as they come.

Take you all day to deliver that lot to Stannington. Either that or you need your own fleet of drivers

Or a classic car transporter
Speedy_Jim 12-05-2006, 09:00 Don't mean to be rude, but are carnival goers going to be interested in a load of old Fiestas?
Of course they are. Who wouldn't be. Everbody grew up around someone who had a Fiesta!
mega_monty 12-05-2006, 18:49 Don't mean to be rude, but are carnival goers going to be interested in a load of old Fiestas?
You would be suprised, there are many people interested in 70's & 80's cars, those cars that were once so common but no longer seen on our roads today, I can't even think the last time I'd seen a MK1 Fiesta on the road.
I have an 1988 MG Metro Turbo, I take it to shows and lots of people stop and look inside and out, ask me loads of questions, many say they used to have one years ago and wish they still had it etc.
I always get asked at shows if I would be interested in selling my car, I could have sold it 100's of times over, but it's not for sale, its mine, its a unique piece of brithish motoring history and it's something different.
Im sure most 70's and 80's classic owners will agree with me and I cant see the interest in old fiestas being any different, Infact I wouldn't mind a MK1 or MK2 XR2 myself which again are becoming rare sights on our roads, I have many memories of being raced by XR2's.
Thanks for the replies. I'll get back to the organisers and give her an indication of what cars people are willing to show.
goldenfleece 18-05-2006, 19:42 All MK I Fiesta owners here, I think we should all show up and show the "proper" classics they have some competition from some of the 'modern' classics.....be like Fiesta in the park event.....a great collection of Mk I's to be seen there.......
We'll definately be there with our "modern classics".
goldenfleece 25-05-2006, 08:52 Phylis, is you see either a GOLD MK I X or W reg about in S6, 10, 11 or town, its ME so give us a toot!!! I always wave at all other MK I's I see.......precious few these days though......
Think I've seen you kicking around in Broomhill before.
I always give other Mk1's a flash (of the lights) and a toot. Only know a of a couple of other MK1's at this end of town (S7, S11, S17) a yellow one(with Killing Joke written in the back window) and a green one rotting away in someone's back garden. So don't see too many over here.
goldenfleece 20-06-2006, 08:19 I dont see any others over here either....seen a Y reg red one in Crosspool earlier this year...and thats it.....we are unique.......all have all gone to the great resting places.......
I am taking my 1981 chevy corvette big block (thats 7.3 litres) this might grab some lime light away from the fiestas !!!
They only made 2000 of this model as it puts down 623 bhp, it's quite a rare model because of the engine.
:hihi: I shall be taking my 1981 chevrolet corvette big block, it's got a 7.3 litre engine and they only made 2000 so it's very rare in the uk
I will try to get some more USA cars and bikes if I can
Is your corvette a white one?
come and say hello Phylis
Did you go to the show at Graves Park. If you did we came and saw you. I was with Liam from John Bee's. We had the green Fiesta and the black Sierra XR4i.

my corvette
Might be struggling for the show this weekend. Trying to dry the cars out. The street where the Fiesta and the Nissan are kept flooded last night in the heavy rain. The Nissan is due to have some MOT work today so thats drying out at home. Had to come to work in the Fiesta which is soaking wet, running like a cow and miss firing every second. Good job i only live a mile from work.
Haven't dared look at the garage where the Sierra is kept yet!
goldenfleece 10-07-2006, 09:39 I was on my way home the other evening when we had the sudden torrential downpour, the one that cuased all the flooding. Passing through Hillsborough the road was really badly flooded and my faithful 1981 Fiesta was really struggling....she conked out finally on Stannington Road about half way up, completely drenched ignition. Managed to reverse her into the side of the road and had to abandon her for 2 hours until the rain stopped......1 can of WD40 it took to dry her electrics out........
We have dried everything out. All working fine again except the alarm on the Fiesta which has developed a mind of it's own.
This year's Carnival is on 11th July 2009. If you have a car you're interested in including then send me a pm with details and I'll get back to you with contact details of the organiser.
Again, you'll be expected to have your car on site from 11ish until the judging at around 4 pm.
will see if i can get the firebird down....
Do you do bikes as well? There are LOADS of quality classic and vintage machines around Sheffield and the owners always seem proud and eager to show them off.
i may be able to enter my gilbern invader
Old Grump 25-04-2009, 08:46 I have a 1975 P6 V8 Rover which is in reasonable condition - nowhere near concours though.
I will bring that along if I am about then - lots to do this year :o)
Shandyboy 25-04-2009, 08:57 My father in law has 2 classic cars so will mention it to him - will probably come along - will let you know.
