Just wondered how people got interested in classics and how they got interested in their particular car ?

For me: When I was really young I had a metro turbo scalextric set which I thought was fab, then our next door neighbour's sister had a B reg black MG Metro Turbo, which I thought was cool, because it had red seat belts and carpets, and turbo boost guage, quite someting back then. Some years later when I'd past my test, for my first car I managed to get hold of an 88 metro turbo and I've still got her now. I've won quite a few prizes at shows, displayed at quite a few events including Coy's historic festival and driven her around silverstone circuit.

Think it's probably because of my dad,he's got a 1955 tr2,which he's rebuilt from virtual scrap, took him the best part of twenty five years though.
Iv'e always wanted a tr6,ever since one ran over my foot in cornwall
I was only little and all i remember was the huge wheels, the union jack emblem on the rear wing, and the colour...magenta.Vowed that day to own one one day.(not quite there yet)
Soooo my influences are that tr6 and my dad.
Got the spitfire and i love it,the smell (mouldy cardboard and petrol) the noise it makes and the much more involving driving experience, most of all the attention it gets, park it next to a porsche and the spit gets the attention.

Mine was my first Maestro, ran it around for a while then was looking on the internet one day and found an owners club, joined the forum and then the club and it maestroism is infectious.

We then purchased a maestro campervan, and a maestro turbo. My first maestro is now off the road awaiting restoration into its former glory.

I did have a mint Maestro Vanden Plas, but I have since passed that onto a new owner so other projects can be concentrated upon. (The VDP had to be permantley garaged, so took up valuable restoration space)

What I love about a Maestro is there is a model to cater for everyone, they are normally simple to fix mechanically and normally very reliable.

What I used to love about early Maestro's was the talking and digital dashboard, Meastro's had them long before they were fitted to Astra GTE's.

I didn't have a choice on the classic car front. Met my boyfriend who is a panel beater by trade, so had to like cars or leave him. Chose to like cars and know we've ended up with 2 old fords and an old Nissan. Wouldn.t change any of them for anything though (not even the boyfriend!)

It good to hear you ladies owning and enjoying your classic cars, pity my previous girlfriends wern't as enthusiastic, had many an argument about the amount of time I devoted to my cars and how they're like ornaments etc.

Same here really, but then I have to admit I am a bit of a car nut myself
Still trying to decide what car to purchase next for when I finish my PhD and *crosses fingers* gets a job which has prospects, pension and pays well.

The choice at the moment is

Rover 220 GSi/GTi turbo (although finding one is a challenge)
Mini Clubman 1275 GT

Like a lot of people the cars that my parents owned (Austin A40, Ford Prefect, Consul, Zodiac, etc) have stuck in my mind. Got involved with the Allard Car Club through my cousin (if you haven't heard of Allards they were generally huge cars with Ford V8s or Cadillac engines built in Clapham in London in the 40s - 60s)
My wife made me write out a list of all the cars I've owned - I think it's 28 over 30 years of driving! Many of them now thought of as classics!

My Late Grandad had a 1971 Morris Traveller, I had A 1996 Rover Metro which was costing the earth to keep going, I wanted somthing that was built well and would start every time to get me to work @ 3-4am.

I saw an advert in the Classic for a Morris Minor dealers in Manchester, a few weeks later a bough " Olive " my 1970 2dr blue Morris 1000, it was a great car the only problems were broken suspention parts ( Sheffield Potholes ) I sold it about a year ago and will be looking for a MK2 (1968-72) MGB GT in the near future.:D
