View Full Version : Fear...simplified! James2713 20-04-2006, 13:37 Hello! Whats your worst fear? (can be anything, spiders, dirty underpants etc) gazelle 20-04-2006, 13:40 Spiders and stuff are phobias but my worst fear is fire. Im not good on bonfire night:( *Twinkle* 20-04-2006, 13:53 I've been scared of fire since the hedge that surrounds my parent's garden was set alight and caught onto the wooden fence that connects to the house... I was only seven/eight years old when it happened, nursing my baby sister in my arms trying to calm her distress at the raging fire that was taking hold outside. Watching my Dad and neighbours tackle the blaze until the firefighters came was terrifying and I felt truly useless as my sister bawled in my arms :( I'm scared of spiders/mice and rats... I don't know why, its just a woman thing I think... They move so quickly and I'm just scared! eeek! Silly enough as it sounds, I've gotten quite a fear of being on my own... Its definately a more recent development in my mind because I always used to love time to myself... I think a few very recent incidents when I was alone and left in a vulnerable position have caused this to trigger fear when I'm on my own... Its not all the time that I feel this... Just now and again :( yozmund 20-04-2006, 14:23 Pigeons!!!!! bigflesh 20-04-2006, 14:38 rejection.... oh and monsters (whispers) Randy Savage 20-04-2006, 14:38 Pigeons!!!!! Got it in one! Not too keen on being buried alive either apart from my mum and sister, your the only other person who has ever agreed with me!!!! Ousetunes 20-04-2006, 14:46 Any envelope with the words Her Majesty's Customs and Excise written on it. I've always been scared of fast rides, like in amusement arcades since an early age. I think it's the fact that you're not in control of the ride and I just hated that feeling of your stomach rising into your mouth. Even Hagg Hill can be scary if I happen to be a passenger in someone else's car. Sad, I know. *binty* 20-04-2006, 14:57 I am absolutely petrified of spiders. If i see one in the bedroom i wont even step foot in there for a couple days, i always think there gonna come back!! How daft am i? x x AJ sheffield 20-04-2006, 15:01 Inadvertantly eating a shrimp or any other vile form of seafood and nuclear armageddon. sazk23 20-04-2006, 15:04 Summer + At nite + Open Window + Lights on = Flying things that only seem to appear when you have closed the windows and are sat on your bed reading or watching tv. Oh yes, the whole neighbourhood have heard my screams of an evening :hihi: slimsid2000 20-04-2006, 15:08 Spiders and stuff are phobias but my worst fear is fire. Are you really a Guy Fawkes in disguise?:D funkymiss 20-04-2006, 15:11 Inadvertantly eating a shrimp or any other vile form of seafood and nuclear armageddon. Yeah shellfish/most seafood are disgusting. I inadvertantly ate a bit of squid once - I thought it was mushroom! :gag: AtticusFinch 20-04-2006, 15:13 I've got a fear of dogs. It stems from an incident when I was working on a milk round aged 16 or 17. Up until that point dogs had never bothered me, in fact we'd had two dogs in our family up until I was aged 12. In this incident I was delivering a pint of milk to the back door of a house. This house had a gate which I'd always open, leave the milk on the step, then leave and close the gate again. I knew that this house had a big white dog because I'd seen it barking at the door many times in the past, but the door had always been closed. On this occasion I opened the gate and walked into their yard, lost in my own thoughts. I then froze as I realised that their back door was left wide open. A few seconds later the dog bounded out to confront me. It was barking and it stood on its hind legs so it was as tall as I was (imagine a "Dulux dog" but more vicious). It then started to scratch me, but I was holding it off with the milk carrier in my right hand. It then leant its head back and opened its mouth wide as though preparing to bite my arm, when its owner came out and shouted. The dog backed down and the owner apologised profusely. I was quite shook up though, and ever since then I've never liked dogs. I can handle small dogs that don't bark, but bigger dogs always make me wary. The catch 22 is that dogs can easily sense fear, so this causes them to bark more, causing a vicious circle. My pet hate is people who let their dogs walk alongside them off the leash. If I walk past a dog on a leash I know that I can give it a wide berth and remain out of range, but an unleashed dog is free to move towards me and bite. Dog owners - bear in mind there are people around who feel uncomfortable around dogs, so keep them on a lead when walking along a street! A combination of all three would make me cry like a small child. gazelle 20-04-2006, 17:00 gazelle-me thinks he was joking Yes I know:thumbsup:, but he's crap at it:hihi: purdyamos 20-04-2006, 17:21 Wasps, sprouts and cliffs. A combination of all three would make me cry like a small child. A combination of the three sounds like a surrealist short film from central Europe! I'm scared of falling down stairs (or cliffs) in a remote location and breaking my neck so I'm completely awake and aware and totally unable to do anything but scream and die a slow horrible lonely death. Will that do? Rooty 20-04-2006, 17:26 Most 'obviously' scared of spiders, as in i make a right racket, go all shaky and cold. I've got better in the last year, but they still really give me the creeps. one bit me a few years ago, it was bizzarre i felt a sharp sudden pain on my belly lifted my top up and there was a bloody spider sitting on me!! I went mad! But where im living now i've only seen about 4/5 since we moved in and we've lived ere for year and a half. Back at mums i used to spot about 4/5 a week in summer! Besides spiders, i have a big fear of being alone in the house at night. I check the doors locked several times, have house phone and mobile in bedroom with me, sleep with a hammer under the pilllow, all mad but it makes me feel better! lol tingle 20-04-2006, 17:46 Blood tests. Never had one, but the thought of squeezing your arm until your vein pops out (I am squinting at the screen and wincing now) and then sticking a needle into it makes me feel sick. Really trying to deal with it though, as I feel I have a moral obligation to give blood. Would not mind at all if they could extract it anywhere other than that horrible fleshy bit on the other side of your elbow. pattricia 20-04-2006, 22:12 You have nothing to fear but fear itself! lefthand 20-04-2006, 22:24 I'm afraid of public speaking...I get what feels like a giant icy hand gripping my brain, followed by my body, and then I forget everything! I have decided to keep doing it though, purely to get over this frosty problem. pattricia 20-04-2006, 22:27 I'm afraid of public speaking...I get what feels like a giant icy hand gripping my brain, followed by my body, and then I forget everything! I have decided to keep doing it though, purely to get over this frosty problem. I could never speak in public, even at a wedding.Funny cos I talk a lot normally, but could never make a speech in public.I think I would just pass out with fear.:suspect: shirty30 20-04-2006, 22:33 well my phobia is spiders but i have a fear of falling.. it not heights that bother me too much just the fear of falling from a great height. dynamicdebz 20-04-2006, 22:35 I have phobia's of porridge & anything of that type of consistency due to a horror film I watched as a child. But as far as fears go, I am pettrified of losing my teeth, especially at the front. redrobbo 20-04-2006, 22:46 I have a fear of Crib Goch. It's an arete on Snowdon. I climbed it once with a friend, and was petrified. But once we'd reached the summit, we could only inch our way across it. There's an almost vertical drop if you slipped - and no-one would survive the fall! I'm currently walking the summits of all the Welsh 2,000ft peaks with my son and 2 friends. Crib Goch is on the list! To make matters worse, I've since lost my balance due to an ear disease, which also gives me bouts of vertigo! :help: Revelations 21-04-2006, 00:04 I'd Agree with fire, I really dont like anything like chip pans, and always jump when the fire alarm goes off for no reason. When i was about 6/7, our tv set alight while i was in bed, and I remember the living room being full of smoke when my mom carried me downstairs, and i remeber my dad throwing the buring tv outside. So, FIRE gets my vote |
