Why do some sites work and some sits not when Im trying to watch streaming video.

On the sites that dont work, the media players starts saying "Opening media, connecting to media", then it just stops and says "Ready" at the bottom of the player.

Its nothing to do with my firewall, I have checked that, plus it works with some sites but not others.

One of the sites that doesnt work is Ebaums, so I know it isnt the sites that are down as I can view the clips on other peoples computers.

On the BBC it tends to be the volume of people demanding the same clip - can be hard to watch the snooker at lunch time. But there are of course loads of reasons. Firewalls in general don't care about streaming video if the broswer is allowed then it handles the stream seamlessly

Its definitely an issue with my computer, because its been doing this for months now, but I havent really been that bothered about it. It will look like its trying to load the clip, then suddenly stop and say ready

What browser are you using ? If IE download and try with firefox (but you will need to get the relevant extentions) at least this will give a starting point to look for the problem.

Im using IE, Ive got firefox installed, ill give it a whirl in a moment. Never thought to try it.

I have no idea what you mean by extensions though as Im not much of a firefox user. Is it something I need to know to get it to work, or can I just load up the browser and try it out?

It will tell you what to download as and when it is required. Another thought - what version of windows media player are you on? I just went to ebaums and that was what firefox used to play the clip - I'm on V10

Ive got V10

Ive sorted it now. It didnt work on firefox either. All I did was to reinstall WMP, and it worked again.

Strange.

Cheers anyway

If computers were straightforward I would have more hair and an easy life!
