Lauren remembered her parents' advice, and telephoned 112 from
her mobile phone . This connected her to the police dispatcher.
She told the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a
flashing red light on his rooftop behind her and that she would not
pull over right away but wait until she was in a service station or
busy area ..

The dispatcher checked to see if there was a police car where she was
and there wasn't and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that
he had back-up already on the way. Ten minutes later 4 police cars
surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her.

One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car
behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the
ground.........the man was a convicted rapist and wanted for
other crimes.

I never knew that bit of advice, but especially for a woman alone in a
car, you do not have to pull over for an UNMARKED car. Apparently
police have to respect your right to keep going to a "safe"
place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge
them ( i.e., put on your hazard lights) or call 112 like Lauren did.

Too bad the cell phone companies don't give you this little bit of
wonderful information. So now it's your turn to let your friends know
about 112.

This is good information that I did not know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please pass on to all your friends, especially any females.

Is this a joke or do you women 'really' not have ot stop for an unmarked car until in a 'safe' place? I have never heard this before

If a woman driver has Police behind even if the blue light is on for a pullover and it is in a dark place a woman is well within her rights to pull over when she thinks it is well lit enough and safe to do so!!!! so yep it is true..and i think it is a wise thing to do for any woman,
I have also been told that if the woman driver so wants to she can acctually drive to the nearest Police station without stopping at all, dont know how true this is though?

I'd prefer to take my chances with the formal legal system by continuing to a safe place to stop, rather than pull over on demand in an 'unsafe' environment.

I've done it too.....the conversation went along the lines of..(as the four policemen in the car went to the boot and pulled on their caps)...'honestly, Officer, if I stopped every time a car full of men flashed its lights, I'd never get anywhere!' (yes, I was younger then). They let me off - and, seriously, I would STILL not stop if I wasn't comfortable with the environment.

But, re Police Stations - I don't know any these days where it's possible to pull up outside and run in. Are there any? They all seem to be protected behind call centres, and I couldn't be sure that a personal caller would be accepted at any locally, nor which entrance to dive for in an emergency.

A lady I used to know was stopped by the police one night on her way home. He asked her to step out of the car. She refused. She told him she would drive to the nearest police station and only then would she get out of the car - which she did.

I always lock my car doors as soon as I get in the car, usually before starting the engine. I think i'd be a bit wary of stopping for an un-marked police car - how would you know it was a police car?

Considering the fact that a dark blue car with flashing blue lights in it's front grille was 'recovered' in Handsworth after trying to persuade taxis to pull over (so they could be robbed of their takings), and a police officer was eventually convicted of either assaulting or raping lone females in a different part of the country, I wouldn't pull over for a police car at all without dialling 999 first, if I thought I wasn't doing anything wrong.

I've always said if someone flashes me unmarked or marked there's no way I'm stopping until I'm in a petrol station CCTV area or similar - as said I wouldn't even stop for a marked car!
I feel that to pull my car over would put me in a vulnerable position that is avoidable.

My brother once got followed home by a unmarked car .it only had one headlight working,so he took them on a tour of the estate and then to woodseats police station. when he got there it turned out to actually be the police. they advised him if it happened again to drive directly to the police station and not round all the estates....he was oly 18 lol:hihi:
