If I was having problems using media player to copy music on to a cd and it kept saying 'filter in wrong state' what might this mean.

Not that I am of course ;)

Please pm me if you are clever like that

Moved this into General because it's not really site specific.

I've never encountered this problem, but technically it's not illegal to write your own CDs, just in case you thought it was.

Thanks Sidla. I thought you weren't allowed to copy music. Makes no difference cos I can't do it anyway.

You're allowed to copy it if you already own the muisc on another CD and the copy's for personal use.

For personal use and for duplicating in exchange to willing parties for beer tokens?

Would never use media player for copying music. Have you tried Nero or Easy CD Creator?

If you still wish to use MP, have you tried downloading the latest update here:-

I use Nero, It's dead easy. Just go through the wizard step-by-step.

agreed. i would never use anything else other than Nero and most people i know also use it. comes bundled with every Plextor burner, so that's good enough for me.

I prefer to use Stomp.

Not just music, though. I back up most of my guff and that is relatively simple as well.

I use Nero 5.

Works a treat :)

I burn music CDs, MP3 backups, video CDs, the works...

CDex is a good free extraction tool. The latest version of Winamp also has an MP3 ripper.

Don't use the Microsoft Media Player, it's geared around copy protection.

whilst we're at it.....

I want to make back up copies of my Phoenix Nights DVD's. However, every time i try and burn i get a message saying the source disc is too large to copy. I presume this is because the Phoenix Nights DVD running length is 145 mins whereas the 4.7GB blank DVD is approx 120 mins.

Any suggestions?

DVDshrink is your man spook, It does what it says on the tin and shrinks a retail DVD so it fits onto a 4,7gig disk.

Google for it, free as well

I second the reccomendation for DVDShrink. Use it myself for all my DVD backups, and its always done the job. Get it from www.dvdshrink.org

what about encrypted dvd's? aren't most of the retail dvd's encrypted these days? or is DVDshrink a decrypter?

I havent found one yet that it wont copy. It rips the dvd to your hard disk, decrypss it, removes the region code and macrovision, then compresses it to fit a DVDR and burns it, all with one or two clicks of the mouse.

me too. we've been using a seperate decrypter and then clonecd. unfortunately, clone is only a trial version and there's no crack available yet, so shrink sounds much better. will download it later.

I use DVD2ONE, it's a pretty decent utility. Followed by CopytoDVD.

Buy 'em again, then the poor underpaid actors might be able to put food in their babies' mouths. :D
