I am surprised no-one in here has brought up the topic of the new game show in America where the winners get to adopt a 16yr old's baby. The girl wants to keep it but her mum says she is too young. The show's producers claim that they are showing a serious programme on adoption. What do you think?

If you want a demonstrator that society is going down the pan here it is!

I think the producers will be spending a lot of money on therapy

I should hope so,how can they live with themselves?Even the people trying to winthe kid thinks it's scummy, they are just so desperate for a child.

Much as I loath reality and game shows at least with most of them you only run the risk of screwing up your own life not some poor innocent kid who has no choice in whats happening to him/her.

I also have to ask whether anyone who would go in for this sort of thing should be trusted with a child?

Ugh, Yanks are morons.... That's my only offering on the subject as I'm too tired to go into a long rant about my feelings regarding Americans.

A bit "racist" though wouldn't you say? Surely you can't make such a sweeping remark about such a vast amount of people.

This thread is just begging to be dragged off topic now thanks to you...

if this girl is going on the show for monetary gain then does this not equate to child trafficing?

I heard the producer interviewed on 5 Live. She was justifying it, saying that all adoption was competitive as there are so many more families wanting to adopt babies than there are babies to be adopted.

I just find it depressing that anyone can think this is a suitable subject for entertainment, including those who tune in to watch it.

Once again, you're correct t020. If someone had said "all Iraqis are morons" the sky would have fallen in and we would have drowned in a sea of self righteous indignation. But the Americans, it seems, are fair game for such sweeping generalisation.

As Eddie Izzard once said, the problem with America is that their "Land Of The Free" mentality has worked TOO well.

Because anything is possible in the US, they've given us the best and the worst of everything. They've produced the best popular music the world has ever seen (Beatles excepted), but they've also given us the most god awful dross imaginable.

Same applies to their films, TV programmes etc, etc.

Unfortunately, in a country where virtually anyone can do anything (it's written in their constitution) this is the result.

Who knows, if we weren't hung up on the class system and the monarchy in the UK, we could have gone the same way.

When the declaration of human rights was drawn up some years ago, America refused to accept the parts that gave human rights to women and to children.
Why isn't their social services stopping this?

A bit off topic but why is Bush wanting to make abortion illegal and yet he has executed more people than any other president- bit hypocritical isn't it?

I'm sure that comment would have been better sent via PM as it seems more of an attack rather than a constructive comment:loopy:

Well I only said it to try and prevent further off-topicness. It doesn't seem to have worked...

of course it didn't work. Ignoring it would have worked.

You need to check what "race" means. American is not a race, it's a nationality. There is no such thing as nationalityism, so it's not too offensive to say that americans are generally stupid (offensive to Americans i would assume).

I would like to say I am aghast and completely bewildered by this but sadly I'm not. I'm not shocked at all. Disgusted yes but not shocked.

The way society is heading is extremely worrying and upsetting.

This 16 year old pregnant girl is being subject to abuse and people are making money from it. It is sick. What on earth must this young girl be going through? She is going to be mentally scarred by this.

As for the people wanting to "win" the child, well all I can say is that really they are not fit to have one. They are as sick as the TV people. I feel sad for them that they are desperate to have a child of their own but no matter how desperate you get you must never let your morals slip this low.

I just hope this programme is never allowed to go ahead.

No- one seems to be thinking about the baby in all of this. Can you imagine when it is older and trying to track down it's parents, fancy being told i won you on a gameshow?!The girl's mum has made her do it and had the cheek to tell her not to screw it up!

I can just imagine that couple that got married after meeting on Cilla Black's Blind Date, I bet their kid would ask its Dad, "How did you meet Mum?" and he'd say "Oh I won her on Blind Date off the telly"...

If only this were the case. The article I read said that the mother simply can't be arsed to look after her kid, she's not being forced into offering the kid for adoption. The baby's healthy and isn't going to be too much for a young mum to cope with - she's just too lazy. She makes me sick.

Some of the prospective parents are also upset at humiliating themselves in the show, yet they want to raise a child so much that they are prepare to do it. I feel sorry for these folk, more sorry for the child and astonished/ashamed at the western society that seems to be prepared to allow this "entertainment". Trying to pass it off as "a serious report" is the most stomach-churning part.....

That's all I'm saying, other than I feel sorry for the poor little mite who's the "prize" bless 'im.

Sorry Rich I take exception to that.
And please bear in mind that there are forum members on here that are from the USA.

Not all Yanks are retarded at all. How would you feel if you were addressed in such a way?

It's a minority that make the majority look bad.
Don't be so stereotypical.
