View Full Version : Windows media Player Art Work
neutronium 15-04-2006, 14:15 Sometimes, when the wind is blowing in the right direction. And all is well in the world. media player 9, updates album information, of the music you are playing. So far so good, but can someone tell me. The artwork for the music cover it puts on your folder being played. Where on the computer does it store these? if anywhere. I have looked, both for hidden folders in My Music, and My Pictures. Not sure what kind of picture format it uses, or the file names used to do a search. Any Ideas?
melthebell 15-04-2006, 14:18 it prolly doesnt store em anywhere
it uses black magic being from microshaft :)
neutronium 15-04-2006, 14:26 Not quite the technical explanation i was hoping for!! LOL
The art work is stored inside the individual album folders.
So if you've got album "One" and album "Two" by singer "John Smith", open the folder John Smith and you'll see the two separate album folders, called (surprise!) "One" and "Two".
Open folder "One", and provided you've set folder options to "view hidden files", you should see 3 files-
AlbumArt_{lots of characters}_Large.jpg
AlbumArt_{lots of characters}_Small.jpg
AlbumArtSmall.jpg
HTH :)

neutronium 15-04-2006, 17:53 Thanks but I have tried the music folder, to see if there are any images stored alongside the music tracks. However, even selecting show hidden folders option. I can not find it. Why would there be 3 images anyway? I Know I have not downloaded this image, otherwise i would have got the back cover & cd cover. Its not that i want the images, but It got me thinking, where media player 10!! yes sorry not 9. Hides the lil buggers. Do I take it 42fta.That yours are hidden in the album folder, as you have directed me?
. Do I take it 42fta.That yours are hidden in the album folder, as you have directed me?Absolutely every one, yes, only not hidden!
Even when I've just downloaded a single track, it has picked up the correct art for the related album.
Have a look at these to see what I see:
http://www.42fta.com/images/AlbumArt/album.jpg and
http://www.42fta.com/images/AlbumArt/folderoptions.jpg
does this help - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306734/en-us
PS - why 3 images? I think one is the folder thumbnail, one is what you see in Media Player (I'm using WMP10) , don't know what the third is!
Large and small I think - one to show in the viewing pane if you've got 'Display Album Art' set to on, and one to show beneath the playlist. Might be wrong though.
neutronium 16-04-2006, 13:21 Well I have searched & searched. They are not in the same folder as the MP3 files. Did the hidden folders thing before i posted this thread. searched for albumart, folder.jpg. Someone at work thinks they may be imbedded in the ID3 tags of the tracks. As the saying goes "If it aint broke, don't fix it". It still does work fine, and fingers crossed, long may it. Not the first time i find my PC doing the unexpected, so i should have known, it would not be the norm.
Thanx for the info though, its good to learn new stuff.
