Apparently the best deal at the moment is buying your euro at the post office :o However if you want to buy it with a switch card or suchlike then you will need to take you passport or drivers licence with you!

Its best if you get some small amount in euros from bank/post office and then take your debit card with you as you tend to get a better exhange rate over there. Bear in mind you get charged from withdrawing from cash machines at around £1.50-£2 per withdrawl. Howvever if you withdraw a large amount that charge is easily offset against the much better exchange rate. Debit card withdrawles is better because you can guage how much you will need when you get over there after you have got settled using the initial small amount you got from the post office/bank.

Hope this helps

Maybe online, but the rate changes daily. I think the cash machine rate is calculated in spain not to sure though. The best thing with using debit card is that you dont have to carry a large amount of cash en route (loss/security issues) and that as mentioned before not be in the position of having too much cash from the post office when you get there as opposed to finding your feet then deciding on how much to withdraw, therefore not being lumbered with too much cash and getting a crap exchange rate when u convert back to sterling in the UK.

I can order the euro notes online from here. It looks very good ... a good exchange rate ... free insured next day delivery.

Will also use the bank debit card if need be.

Not too bothered about converying the curreny back ... it's euros so there's a good chance I will use them again anyway.
