deelightful3 12-04-2006, 19:49 Is anyone planning on seeing the film silent hill which is out next week,i dont normally play on the ps2 but i was hooked on all the silent hill games, i wonder just how grusome it will be cos the game had my heart missing a beat quite a few times.
LedZeppelin 12-04-2006, 19:58 I can't wait!!!
I too had this on the original playstation and my god was it weird.
I have played the other 3 as well and they too were weird.
Have you seen the trailer yet?
I found "The Making Of Silent Hill" the movie on a message board and I couldn't help watch it and it doesn't give the story away but the actors/actresses comment on how great it is.
I'm off to watch it next Friday 21st at the pictures.
deelightful3 12-04-2006, 20:07 i have seen the trailer but it doesnt give much away does it, as soon as i can i will be going to see it as well, please post when you have seen it but dont give the story away, lol

I played it for hours on the original playstation then when i got my PS2 i bought Silent Hill 3 but never really got into it. All a bit eerie though, remember the shadow/ghost type things of a small child that used to randomly appear and walk through walls in the first one? All while your radio crackled away... Looking forward to seeing the film.

funkyukgal 13-04-2006, 01:49 Yep im going...hope its not gonna be a disappointment tho...
Beakerzoid 13-04-2006, 12:20 It looks likely to be the first proper game-to-film adaptation. The director, Christophe Gans, was responsible for the excellent Brotherhood of the Wolf, so the film was in good hands all along. The trailer looks perfectly like the game, and it seems that the plot is influenced by the first game, only altering teh male lead to a woman....although I did spy pyramid head briefly in the trailer (from the second game) and he gives me the heebie-jeebies!
I anticipate being freaked out by this film. Can't wait!
Sorry folks but if video game to movie crossover history is a yardstick, this Silent Hill movie will be pants just like every other game to movie crossover ever made, with the possible exception of the Mortal Kombat movies, at least they stayed true to the source material, ie the storyline of the games.
I mean come on, let's look at some of the Turkeys of the past, Super Mario Brothers, WTF?! Whoever cast Bob "BT Advert" Hoskins as Mario wants shooting IMO.. Double Dragon the movie was so pants it went straight to video, nuff said... Street Fighter was also crap, Jean Claude Van Damme as Guile?! Eh?! Kylie Minogue, who's Australian, as Cammy, who's supposed to be an English character?! Eh?! :loopy: And don't even get me started on how crap the recent Doom movie was, apart from the semi cool first person shooty bits it was just an excuse for The Rock to use F words to appeal to immature kids who think swearing is all cool and funny
Beakerzoid 21-04-2006, 14:44 Just seen it.
Best game to film adaptaion so far!
Story was just like the games, the soundtrack was from the games, the look, mood, atmosphere, all were right!
Loved it from start to finish....I'm now about to sit down and play the first game all over again.
deelightful3 23-04-2006, 02:26 cool, cant wait to see it,just need a babysitter now.

haha yeah.. Well im still well and truly lost!
And, Dibsy.. Im Well and truly a big girl! :(
sufc_tom 25-04-2006, 11:14 The film stays true to the game (bar the lead is the woman).
Its the best attempt at a game-to-movie conversion so far and not a bad film for its genre.
I would suggest playing the game beforehand.
wheateruk 25-04-2006, 11:23 i have played the game and im still lost
Beakerzoid 25-04-2006, 19:06 More or less made sense to me....but having completed all 4 games multiple times, and seeing the multiple endings made it somewhat easier.
I love the fact that the ending was so ambiguous (although the clues are scattered within the film to aid understanding)
SilentStatic 30-04-2006, 12:28 Easily the best game to movie adaptation, but that's not exactly hard!
The sets and the atmosphere were almost identical to the game (ie great), apart from the Sean Benn parts which broke up the tenseness - he was just annoying and had a stupid 'accent'. His 'discoveries' were explained elsewhere anyway?
The monsters were also very well reproduced, although a shame we didn't see more of them. The executioner was so cool, especially as he had a 'FF7 Cloud' sword. Shame we didn't see more of him.
To sum up, a disturbing film which is a well executed interpretation of the story. Great performances from the main actress and Alessa, and some pretty gruesome deaths - not for sensitive types! I loved it :)
The following paragraph will only make sense to fans of the game.
The divergence from the game made it harder to explain to the mate I took. The gender difference was OK as the actress did really well and it looks like they set it up for Silent Hill 2 at the end of the film (I just hope they don't bring back Sean Benn as the main character). But they made Daelia seem like almost a nice person in the film (notable exception being signalling to the executioner to perform 'that kill' upon the whiny woman). Isn't she's actually a really twisted malevolent woman who causes Alessa horrible pain for seven years, in the pursuit of creating her own 'god'? What happened to Kaufmann? And they made 'Cheryl' seem like an unconnected entity at the end. Ah well, makes it easier for people who haven't played the game/ find it hard enough to understand anyway.
