Went to school there 1960 -1970.
Do you remeber Mr Mullen the English teacher(senior school) or Mr Smith (Juniors) who was Rounders mad and used to throw balls to pupils during lessons .. just to help us practice catching!!
Also, do you remember the health clinic that was in the top yard just up from the caretakers house. Going to see the nurse and being sent home with a blue card if you felt poorly.

 Yes Carol I remember... I left 69... do you remember Mr Finch who was like a brick outhouse...also Miss Dinsdale or Mr Heart who used to take pe... happy days... sometimes.

carol

Yes TREK happy days, sometimes!
I've always thought how talented and brave those teachers were to have chosen to teach at our school.
I wonder how the likes of Mr Finch and Mr Riley, the science teacher, would go down in similar schools nowadays.
I remember Mr Finch throwing the board rubber at people who talked while he was teaching. Do you think it was true that he was in the army before entering the teaching profession?
He used to threaten pupils with a large brown, rubber ,babies dummy that he kept in a cup in the cupboard... if they sat with their fingers in their mouths they had to put the dummy in!

 Who knows for sure but I liked him and the things he did to keep the kids in line... he used to take some of us boys op to Norton to drive an old car... he pulled some stunts

I left Wybourn School in December 68 but still I recognize all the teachers name mentioned especially Mr. Finch I remember him catching me running down the corridor and I paid for it big time and what about Mr. Carrick-Smith. Maybe someone knows some of my ex-school mates there was Barry Hobson, David Shaw, Richard Walker, Stuart Kirkham, Lesley Oxley and many other whose names are lost over the years. As far as I am aware my Aunt Norma still lives in Manor Oaks Close but haven’t been in contact for many years.
So from 1968 to 2005 I’ve lived in Australia and been back only once in that time but still support the Boys in Blue and White Stripes no matter what league there in. If anyone should know the guys above please forward their address or email address to me it would be greatly appreciated.

Barry Simpson

I left the Wybourn estate in 1976 never been back since, except last year i drove though to have a nossy, did'nt stop, but someone still nicked my wheel trims.
Seriously! back in 1950 to 1970 you could go to bed with your back door unlocked, did'nt have to put a padlock on the coal bunker and if you had 10 pieces of star & green'un hung in the outside loo at night you had 10 pieces in the morning.

Did anybody know Trevor Birch from the Wybourn - he had a brother called Barry. I was in the York and Lancaster regiment with him in 1966. After leaving the army we played in bands together - he was lead vocals - including one called Chicago Line which is mentioned on the 60's bands thread. I've been in Canada since 1974 and lost touch. Can anyone help??

I know of the Jubb girls - they worked at J Stead, Manor works on Cricket Inn Road. I wa there 1959 to February 1963. Went out with joyce Jubb a couple of times in 1962 - nice girl. I left Sheffield in 1967 and moved to driffield, East Yorkshire, still have a house there. also have a house in Malaysia, near Kuala Lumpur where I spend about 10 months of each year
I also remember a guy who worked on the packing bay at Steads, he was married to one of the Jubb girls - Billy Foulstone, worked with a guy, also lived on Wybourne, by the name of Sid Marshall. Can remember many more but not their names. Billy will be around late 70's, mat be even 80 ish now
I marred a girl from Manor Park in 1963, she also worked at Steads - Margaret Turner from Beumont Way, but divorced in 1982
Best Wishes - Grey Eminence - Subang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
