View Full Version : What is your favourite Toasted Sandwich filling?
Moon Maiden 27-04-2004, 16:05 I have helped out at my sisters shop which is a wonderful sandwhich shop that serves Bacon and Egg and all that sort of stuff.
She does toasted sandwhiches and some of the fillings are a bit odd - beans and hendersons relish, turkey, sausage and beans?
Anyway - I wondered what you lot liked on them?
I like stewed steak toasties. It looks like dog food going on but it tastes yum!
Moon Maiden
yes I am bored
Just ham and cheese with pinapple for me please!
Where is the sandwhich shop? Is it in town, I may pop in if it is.
The beans and hendersons sounds nice and the sausage and beans too.
scatterheart 27-04-2004, 16:09 Cheese, Ham and Pineapple
Oooh scrumptious :D
Ned Ludd 27-04-2004, 16:23 Will you lot stop talking about food? I'm starving hungry now and can't get my mitts on any grub for another hour! Next time you'll have to deliver me a curry or something so I can ease the pangs whilst I read your messages.
When pubs first started doing grub (other than the Berni Steak House places) Toasted sarnies were a really big deal. Top seller was Luncheon Meat/Cheese/Branston
Ohh God, my stomach's really hurting now and I'm starting to dribble!
Moon Maiden 27-04-2004, 16:25 Just a thought - anyone tried a curry toastie?
Moon
Babooshka 27-04-2004, 16:38 I like really juicy steak and friend onion sarnis. However, the only ones I have had taste like tough leather and always seem to be served in a rock hard. gum-slashing baguette!
Good old ham and cheese rocks too.
A.B.Yaffle 27-04-2004, 16:39 I love marmite and cheese toasties
claycraft 27-04-2004, 17:38 Hot banana with a sugar sprinkling on top. BEWARE! It's like liquid lava till it cools down a little.
scatterheart 27-04-2004, 17:56 Oooh, well I like banana sandwiches, so I'll have to give that one a try! ;)
Sounds disguting, but peanut butter and HP fruity sauce is a great combo, as is baked beans and corned beef. The corned beef just turns into mush with the bean juice!
Babooshka 27-04-2004, 20:14 Tongue Sarni...?????
The nicest toastie is a pizza toastie. If you cut the crusts off a slice of bread, cover it in tomato pizza topping place it in the middle of your toastie with cheese etc it makes it more sustantial.
It is pure heaven in a hot snack!
Fantomas 28-04-2004, 10:16 I like herby scrambled egg toasties. Can be a bit tricky getting the runny egg into the depression in the bread tho, there's definitely a knack to it!
garrence 28-04-2004, 13:40 Lemon curd.. it makes them kinda pop-tart like. Sounds gross I know.
The old favourite of cheese and tomato works every time.Sardine toasties are quite nice too.
mimicraze 28-04-2004, 15:28 my fave is a layer of cheese, layer of tuna then chesse back on top. absolutely AMAZING!!! really gorgeous, if she starts doing these then let me kno, will be there in a flash.

Moon Maiden 28-04-2004, 15:34 The shop is in Hillsborough not in town.
I don't know about other sandwich shops but basically if she has the indgredients she will make up the sandwich and charge you accordingly.

Cheese and raw onion - that is as opposed to pickled.
neeeeeeeeeek 28-04-2004, 16:17 Pineapple, egg and brown sauce....
it rocks..
*Twinkle* 28-04-2004, 16:19 Just cheese and ham for me :) Mmm!

Yeah this one is my fave too, but without the sugar. True, let it cool down a bit.
Double Gloucester Cheese with Ham on occasion
Martin_s 28-04-2004, 19:57 bavarian/austrian smoked cheese melted sarnies...
Yum yum yum..
vegan..so limited as a toasted salad sandwich for some reason doesn't appeal.
However scrambled tofu (scrambled with a little turmeric and soy sauce) makes a great toastie filling - worth trying even if you're not veggie/vegan but just want to try something different
mimicraze 28-04-2004, 20:12 yummy! (veggie)
Sam Miguel 29-04-2004, 14:37 As I am alergic to dairy products, I like goat's cheese and pickle in a toasted sandwich.
Yum.
I'm pretty plain, I just like cheese, tuna, or cheese and ham.
Come on mods! Incorrect spelling of sandwich and you HAVEN'T corrected it! :D

Memphis Bell 29-04-2004, 16:48 By far the best filling is cheese, beans and brown sauce !!
In fact i might just get the old sandwich toaster out now and treat myself to this culinary delight !! :D
Give it try !!
DaBouncer 29-04-2004, 16:54 Kinda fond of Cheese n Bacon.
Pre cook the bacon then cut into small strips.
Fill inside of sandwich with Cheese (Red Leicester is good) and then add the already cooked bacon.
Mmmmm YUMMY!
Alternative plain old Cheese n Hendersons (now that rocks)!
or
Cheese n Tobasco Sauce (spicy n yummy).
Kinda fond of Stilton / Chedder mix toastie.
Ooooh toastie heaven this thread innit!

Mosherchik 29-04-2004, 20:18 Cheese, cheese and more cheese
with maybe some tomato burger relish if Im feeling a bit adventurous :D
thanks to this thread, I dug out my sandwich toaster tonight
Has anyone else noticed, they're kinda addictive for a short while, then the toaster goes back in the cupboard for months until the idea strikes again - then it's toasties, toasties, toasties, and storeage.
BrainThrust 30-04-2004, 00:54 Peanut butter and chocolate/hazelnut spread on thinly sliced brown bread, just thick enough so the fillng can't ooze out.
Yummy, even if it does get a little mesy if you over fill on the chocolate spread like I do.
Wilf
Reg Reader 20-06-2009, 13:36 That tinned bacon grill stuff, baked beans and brown sauce. Superb I tell you.
Smack Jack 20-06-2009, 13:39 Cheese, ham and red onion. Tempted to get the Breville out for tea
i soooooo want a cheese toastie now! the best ones are when you put a little bit of cheese on the bread so it gets toasted and goes all crispy! mmm love it!
Cheddar and mushroom. Ham and pineapple. Cheddar, bacon and hendersons.
Just boring old cheese and onion does it for me.
Hallamton 20-06-2009, 14:53 Bacon, Brie and Cranberry sauce. Try it and I dare you to tell me that it's not the best sandwich you'll have ever tasted ;)
Smoked bacon, banana and peanut butter. A South African speciality. Wonderful.
3 cheese & either ham or chicken. I always use mature cheddar, mozarella and parmesan, mmm, might go have one now...
Smoked bacon, banana and peanut butter. A South African speciality. Wonderful.
The smoked bacon and banana I know of and love, but with peanut butter? :suspect:
Thickly sliced corned beef, a sprinkle of cheese and HP sauce..
What I had for lunch was good: wholemeal bread, Wensleydale cheese and red pepper hummus.
pennypie 20-06-2009, 18:46 Definitely cheese and pickapeppa sauce! That's what I'm having for my tea tonight too!! yum.
epiphany 20-06-2009, 18:52 Keep it simple.
Cheese with tomato sauce.
TFishcake 20-06-2009, 19:16 My fave is pineapple & mint sauce, just like sweet & sour.
Phil Anthrop 20-06-2009, 19:38 Chateau de briande chasseur with rosemerry hinted, then for afters I always like to finish with a lovely hot tart with plenty of sauce....YUMMY!
sycamore66j 20-06-2009, 19:42 beans & apple sauce.
Cheese and Hendersons oh yes please
sycamore66j 20-06-2009, 19:44 black pudding & dripping.
I think it depends on what kind of sandwich filling you are talking about! ;)
I quite like to have cheese & tomato or with onions toastie when I am not training. I could quite easily eat two of them.
sycamore66j 20-06-2009, 19:53 a freind of mine had a rabbit that ate toasties, he was warned not to feed it too many differant ones. but he ignorerd the advice and it died. the vet gave cause of death as.........mixinmitoasties !!
charlie9865 20-06-2009, 20:18 cheese and ham toastie mmmmm
The smoked bacon and banana I know of and love, but with peanut butter? :suspect:

Fibutton 21-06-2009, 17:38 My daughter loves cheese and bean toasties....(need to buy a new toaster after every one she makes mind u)...
I made a new taste sensation the other day - mild cheddar, chopped up choritzo (It has to be chopped otherwise you're just eating chewy sausage discs lol), and spring onion(also chopped haha)....delish !
The corned beef one sounds fantastic....usually my fave is cheese, onion, ham and Branston ....has to be Branston though ....if not -Hendersons in abundance !!
Berberis 21-06-2009, 17:50 Baked Beans :)

As I am alergic to dairy products, I like goat's cheese and pickle in a toasted sandwich.
Yum.
I didn't realise you can still have goats milk if you were allergic to dairy, cool! I bet goats cheese and pesto toasty would be delicious
