I have helped out at my sisters shop which is a wonderful sandwhich shop that serves Bacon and Egg and all that sort of stuff.
She does toasted sandwhiches and some of the fillings are a bit odd - beans and hendersons relish, turkey, sausage and beans?

Anyway - I wondered what you lot liked on them?

I like stewed steak toasties. It looks like dog food going on but it tastes yum!

Just ham and cheese with pinapple for me please!

Where is the sandwhich shop? Is it in town, I may pop in if it is.

The beans and hendersons sounds nice and the sausage and beans too.

Will you lot stop talking about food? I'm starving hungry now and can't get my mitts on any grub for another hour! Next time you'll have to deliver me a curry or something so I can ease the pangs whilst I read your messages.
When pubs first started doing grub (other than the Berni Steak House places) Toasted sarnies were a really big deal. Top seller was Luncheon Meat/Cheese/Branston
Ohh God, my stomach's really hurting now and I'm starting to dribble!

Just a thought - anyone tried a curry toastie?

I like really juicy steak and friend onion sarnis. However, the only ones I have had taste like tough leather and always seem to be served in a rock hard. gum-slashing baguette!

Good old ham and cheese rocks too.

Hot banana with a sugar sprinkling on top. BEWARE! It's like liquid lava till it cools down a little.

Sounds disguting, but peanut butter and HP fruity sauce is a great combo, as is baked beans and corned beef. The corned beef just turns into mush with the bean juice!

The nicest toastie is a pizza toastie. If you cut the crusts off a slice of bread, cover it in tomato pizza topping place it in the middle of your toastie with cheese etc it makes it more sustantial.

It is pure heaven in a hot snack!

I like herby scrambled egg toasties. Can be a bit tricky getting the runny egg into the depression in the bread tho, there's definitely a knack to it!

Lemon curd.. it makes them kinda pop-tart like. Sounds gross I know.

The shop is in Hillsborough not in town.

I don't know about other sandwich shops but basically if she has the indgredients she will make up the sandwich and charge you accordingly.

vegan..so limited as a toasted salad sandwich for some reason doesn't appeal.

However scrambled tofu (scrambled with a little turmeric and soy sauce) makes a great toastie filling - worth trying even if you're not veggie/vegan but just want to try something different

Kinda fond of Cheese n Bacon.

Pre cook the bacon then cut into small strips.
Fill inside of sandwich with Cheese (Red Leicester is good) and then add the already cooked bacon.

Mmmmm YUMMY!

Alternative plain old Cheese n Hendersons (now that rocks)!
or
Cheese n Tobasco Sauce (spicy n yummy).

Kinda fond of Stilton / Chedder mix toastie.
Ooooh toastie heaven this thread innit!

thanks to this thread, I dug out my sandwich toaster tonight

Has anyone else noticed, they're kinda addictive for a short while, then the toaster goes back in the cupboard for months until the idea strikes again - then it's toasties, toasties, toasties, and storeage.

Peanut butter and chocolate/hazelnut spread on thinly sliced brown bread, just thick enough so the fillng can't ooze out.

Yummy, even if it does get a little mesy if you over fill on the chocolate spread like I do.

I think it depends on what kind of sandwich filling you are talking about! ;)

I quite like to have cheese & tomato or with onions toastie when I am not training. I could quite easily eat two of them.

My daughter loves cheese and bean toasties....(need to buy a new toaster after every one she makes mind u)...

I made a new taste sensation the other day - mild cheddar, chopped up choritzo (It has to be chopped otherwise you're just eating chewy sausage discs lol), and spring onion(also chopped haha)....delish !

The corned beef one sounds fantastic....usually my fave is cheese, onion, ham and Branston ....has to be Branston though ....if not -Hendersons in abundance !!

I didn't realise you can still have goats milk if you were allergic to dairy, cool! I bet goats cheese and pesto toasty would be delicious
