Is this the new tapas place? x

Randy Savage
21-04-2006, 14:37
Sure is.

Popped in this afternoon... picked up a menu. Looks awesome - just what sheffield needs ... a proper tapas bar.

There is a tapas place on Crooks already, and one on Trippet lane I think, so it's hardly a new thing.

Randy Savage
21-04-2006, 14:51
Yeah, but they're both sh*te.

Trippet Lane is a Cuban Bar... and as for Crookes. It's not how Tapas should be served... all fomal and sitting down... as if you're going for a meal.

Oh, and they both have a crap selection of wines..

What do you do then eat it while you're dancing ?

Randy Savage
21-04-2006, 15:12
Yeah baby - nothing like chomping on some patatas bravas while your bopping away to some Julio Iglesias... it's what this city needs, some alternative eating venues and styles...

The selection of Tapas is more realistic too, not the crap you get served at other so called tapas places in Shef.

Not many places that do Chorizo al Sidra or have manchego cheese...

nick2

I believe the dish is "Chorizo a la sidra" (you might want to point that out to them when you go) :)

Went last night - top notch!

Service was a bit chaotic, but hey it was their opening night.

Tapas were great and very tasty - unlike the drivel you get a other places in sheff

Wine list is awesome

Ooh, I popped in there last night too. By accident. Shame they don't serve later though. Looks great.

La Vina.
Oh Dear, Poor service,.........Boil in the bag Food.....Vesta type instant Paella, menu states dishes with garlic, but we never saw or tasted any, in short ,little to do with the Spain we know, but Hey ! you can booze till 12pm without having to buy any food, thats what most will eventually do,in our opinion, decor nice
The Ecce Road "Golden Mile" is awash with eateries, the competition is hotting up,rumour has it that some big names are sniffing around,
Meanwhile we have no return visit planned for "La Vina"
Lets hope that the new Italian restuarant opening next door
will be more authentic!food wise!

Randy Savage
26-04-2006, 21:38
So where would you recommend for tapas in Sheff then Mossdog?

I think that La Vina is probably the best place in Shef for Tapas... other than at my gaffe when I slave over making some ;-)

mossdog

I dont know! is the short answer Rashah,
Sounds like we should come and give yours a roadtest!

Randy Savage

I agree, we've gotta go with what we've got.

Was in London on Monday and went to a tapas place on shepherds bush rd.. awesome!

You can't beat home cooked food - whatever it is!

Been to Madrid and Granada a few times and the standard varies out there too... the messier places being better

You are right about home cooked,we mostly know what we like ,and come up with it in our homes.
We dont think that a really Memorable Magic restuarant exists in Sheffield.
There are some very good skillfull, catering college standard restuarants around, but most top chefs never went near a catering college(only to teach)
They have it naturally. Rick Steins in Padstow was good for a while, weve had some great food there ,you cant get that standard in Sheffield, and it does not have to be expensive, but hes going through marital problems an the restuarant is definately suffering, but I am always willing to listen for reccomends.....cheers

Went on Friday for drinks. It was okay, busy friendly menu. It is part of the La Tasca chain so isn't very authentic, but simple food and good for groups.

La Vina is supposed to be the more up market version of the La Tasca chain.

Wine list by the glass not too good. Sampled a few whites and they were a bit disapointing.

Staff friendly, atmosphere good and food looked fine.

Well it's not owned by Italians and it's part of a chain that serves the Cheshire Set, so we will see.

As for La Vina, it will do well because people are busting for somewhere else to go as an alternative to the usual wine bars... and the Mk6 Nonnas aberration.

The food's fine, the wine's fine. It's obviously themed to within an inch of its life, but it's ok and it makes a change. It will do for me for now.

I belive the Itallian opening next door is called Felicini, I live in Manchester now, and they have just opened a new one on Oxford Road, food is very nice and should be a good addition to Eccy road, and maybe add some competition.

attached is their website http://www.grinch.co.uk/felicini.html

I belive they are also going to be opening one in the city centre, and in bakewell.

the one to watch out for is Piccolinos, I belive they are going to be opening near the new Mcdonald hotel.

This is by far the busiest Italian in Manchester, you have to book virtually every evening regardless of which night it is.

attached is their web site. http://www.individualrestaurants.co.uk/

I still come back to Sheff for meals out with my Parents probably every other weekend, and a couple of new qualuity places wouldn't go a miss.

Also ate at Rowleys in Baslow the other weekend, well worth a visit if anyone i in that neck of the woods, knocks spots of places like west 10 and blue room.

What a shame that Kingdom doesn't do food anymore. Sounds like it would've been just what you were looking for!

The non potlitical club.

nobody_knows -I'm not sure you can dance. You'll be lucky to find somewhere to stand on a weekend, never mind dance. ;)

I went to the one in Bakewell the other night, it was absolutely packed, and not bad.

Never been to La Vina, but I like both Cubana and Spinrocs for Tapas. Not authentic Spanish maybe, but still enjoyable, especially Cubana.

I went to La Vina the other night.. It was alright, bit busy and the food was nice although vegetarian options are not great. Had really bad stomach ache when i got home but im not sure whether that was food related or not.
