I've got to go to Leeds tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knew any good long(ish) stay carparks in the city centre - where I'm going is only about 10 minutes from the station but I don't mind a bit of a walk if there is somewhere easy to drive to/ park in/ cheap south of the river.

A useful old thread reckoned it would take up to 90 minutes at rush hour so I'm going to leave pretty early - about quarter to 7 I reckon, in the hope that I will miss the worst of the traffic.

I would like to get the train but unfortunately the quick one doesn't leave me with enough time to get where I'm going and anything earlier takes forever.

Sorry I'm rambling aren't I.

Have a look at this this (http://www.leeds-uk.com/city/map-0.htm) website. It shows car parks and routes in Leeds city centre. Beware that Leeds is much more expensive than Sheffield for city centre parking - up to £10 for a full day.

As for free parking, how well do you know Leeds? When I worked there, I used to park on a side street by the brewery on the edge of town, south of the river for nowt. You have to be quick though, and there's no security. It's 5 to 10 min walk from the centre. I can not remember the name of the road, but it will be somewhere near the Tetley's Brewery Wharfe on the 'City Centre routes and parking' map.

Could you try taking the National Express coach from town? There's a shuttle service from Sheffield to Leeds and back every hour. Catch the coach from the Sheffield rather than Meadowhall interchange if you can help it. By the time it gets to Meadowhall, the coach is almost full and you may not get a seat. On a good day the morning journey will take an hour; on a bad day, it could take two.

Why do you want to go to Leeds for? There's no better city than Sheffield ;)

Having just finished a three year contract in Leeds I'd say take the National Express Coach up to Leeds (#5.50 return, buy your ticket in advance, services at least one an hour from about 6-30 am onwards). The 8-15 coach form Sheffield Interchange normally gets in at about 9-25.

When I did take the car I used to park in the Merrion Centre Pay and Display. It's secure and reasonably safe - don't be tempted to park on the roads out of the City Centre past the Merrion - the area around the Halifax Offices on Lovell Park Road looks safe but can be a bit dodgy. Expect to pay a tenner for the whole day.

There is a smallish P & D near the Railway station, and a couple on the 'Loop' road that goes through and around Leeds City Centre. If you mis a turn on the Loop then just go around again until you come back to where you started....there are people still driving around that loop who've been there for 5 years...:-)

Cheers for that, think I'm going to try the p&d on sovereign st.

Only going to leeds for the morning, abby - will definitely come back and stay in shef afterwards.

yeah looked at the coaches, but as I need to get back to work in Shef I think it's going to be easier to drive.

hopefully i'll get there really early and be able to go for a coffee somewhere.
