once I had tequilas there but they put the lemon slices on the same dish as the salt so the lemon soaked up the salt :gag: but I'm sure the cocktails are better!

Ivory is probably the best place for proper bartending in town. French martinis -yum!
There are some good bartenders in Muse as well but it takes ages to get served in there.

Umbrella's are a cheap Hollywood & Tourist invention. You won't find them in any bar that serves real cocktails. As for dressing (cherry, lime, lemon etc) you'll find most decent places in Sheffield that serve cocktails probably get them right! However in place that serve bottled cocktails you're unlikely to get a Manhatten at all, let alone a Manhatten with a Maraschino Cherry in it! ;)

(p.s Tequila shots should be served with lime and not lemon. It's the traditional way to do it, although I think lemon has become such the norm that people now look at you funny if you serve lime with them.)

I went to the One Eleven Club a few times and the cocktails were really good. Not been since it's changed to the Runaway Girl but it sounds like they've kept the standards up.

I never made it to the One Eleven Club, but The Runaway Girl is fantastic. The cocktails are pretty good, but contrary to the previous poster I think they're pretty cheap, for good cocktails anyway. The standard versions hover around £3.50 and the premium versions around £4.50.

Their cocktails are online: http://www.runaway-girl.com/drinks-jan06.html

I'd second that. Runaway girl are good for cocktails and the prices are reasonable.

Yeah they look pretty good value - definitely cheaper than the One Eleven Club used to be. They don't have my favorites on the list though (Caipirinha and Mojito). Will have to check it out sometime.

Apparently 'Runaway Girl' cocktail bar on Arundel Gate (Next to Hallam Uni), supposed to be good? I'm going to try it out this sat, so I'll let you know what's it like!

My fave cocktail bar has to be the Ruby Lounge on Carver st, just next door to crystal. Service there is excellent and cocktails are fantastic  - plus usually have offers on of two for a fiver, bargain!! think this offer is on most days until 6pm (ish). James the barman is a bit tasty too!!

Just a bit of info about The Ruby Lounge.

My band played there last night as part of a new funk/jazz night on Thursdays with a live band.
We'd had the previous week's gig there pulled because the manager had cut the amount they were willing to pay bands, so that sets the scene.

Well last night, after being promised £150 for the trio I took there, we were told half way through that the music wasn't what they had wanted - 'not funky enough' - jeez we were playing Herbie Hancock, Average White Band, JTQ - bloody loud too! :D
So they tried to pay us half of the rate - which meant we would have each got a measly £25. We had a discussion with them about it  and they 'compromised' and agreed to pay us £100.

All this was not done in a very nice way, it was underhand and seemed to be as a result of them wanting to cut costs. When you book a band, you book them for a fee, not by the hour or set, unless agreed beforehand, and it most certainly wasn't.

When you consider that they only saved £50 and they lost the support of several of Sheffield's finest and well-known musicians, I wouldn't have thought it was worth the saving.

Ivory has to be one of the best places for cocktails, especially if you are lucky enough to be served by Matt who makes the best caiprinhas and cosmopolitans. His drink knowledge is second to none.

I reckon the best cocktails in town are from Bar Max next to tesco, without doubt some of the best bartenders I've ever seen. I bet you would be hard pushed to find better cocktails in the city centre, if not in Sheffield as a whole. Fact!

there was a time a few years ago when i was one of the best cocktail bartenders in sheffield. i could sling a bottle with anyone.

sadly now i'm old and domesticated and the days i was a hip, young, funky bartender are long gone! still when my kid turns round one day and calls me sad i'll have a knowing smile on face because i'll know i was once cool!

Oh my god!! I have been dying for a manhatten and serching across Sheffield for one. The last one I had was at TGI Friday's in Leeds and I ain't eating that crap just for the cocktails!!

Been wanting a night in Boho for a while - i love eating out and I know the chef is well praised there. Just not exactly cheep to eat there so got to save the pennies first - or wait for a really special occasion to justify splashing out. Maybe we'll just have to pop in for a manhatten sooner!

Hello.

Feel free to pop into boho for a Manhatten any time soon, you can have it dry, perfect or sweet or anyway you like it ;)

We're launching our new website soon and you'll be able to see our new menu (which is probably going to be a little bit cheaper) and our new cocktail menu (which is fantastic!)
