Strange thing has been happening to me over the last few weeks. In the day, before 6pm, my modem would just sit there in the state it normally does when it is reset, just before it makes a connection. This mean I have no internet. I thought first that maybe there was a problem with the NTL service that day and thought that I would leave it and try again later. I came back in the evening to find it had returned to its full glorious 2Mb service. This was good. The next day, however, it was doing the same as before. So I did what I did the day before, with the same results. I noticed, that given about 5 minutes either way, the service would resume at 6pm, every day. Without fail. So, obviously, it is not, a service problem. Especially when compared with all friends on NTL too(some on 1Mb, some on 2Mb and even one on 10Mb) who had no problem what so ever. I started to wonder what it could be. Was it the 'fair usage policy'? I checked my figures for last month, with total downtstream activity barely breaking 500Mb. This is perfectly reasonable, if I remember the policy correctly.
I decided to email them last night. Stating my dissapointment at the service and surprise at the consistency of the failure. This morning, I come on to find the modem sitting there, ready. So, my email must have reached them. I cannot prove why this has happened but I am sure that NTL put a limiter on my service. Maybe they were doing it because the traffic was high and they needed to cut it down slightly. This still doesnt make good sense. My friend on 10Mb, has well over 1Gb monthly usage, so surely he would be cut off to save traffic? Then again he is on the top service so maybe not. Still, I feel it is not fair that any person, on any service can be cut off when NTL offer a always on broadband service. Anyone have any ideas on this?
