Bill Newby is starting a new weekly beginners class this thursday in the Millenium Hall, the Polish centre, Ecclesall road. Bill is an accomplished teacher and you will get a lot of attention and learn well and quickly.

The Beginners class in St Mary's Bramall lane is on a Monday night. This is a structured course, not a drop in class, but they do start at fairly regular intervals. This is more of a dance studio atmosphere, but the quality of lessons surpasses any others.

PM me if you want more info

There are a lot of different contemporary dance styles. You might like to try modern tap, jazz dance, disco, or modern. Or even give Jive or Salsa a go.

hey - try easydance on woodseats - its fantastic and so sociable:hihi: Its on wednesday and thursday evenings tho.

its partner dancing and starts at like 7.30 - 10.30

the 1st half hour tends to be jus general chit chat - and then the acutal classes get under way. The beginners class is at 8 and finsihes around 8.40 when theres some freestyles to practice what you hav learnt in the the beginners bit.

Then at 9 there the intermidiate class which does more complicated moves:hihi:

Its then freestlye till 10.30
its real good

Modern Jive is a good fun evening out - Easydance is one of the groups around doing it, Ceroc is another (Tuesday nights at the Davy Centre in Woodseats), but the biggest in the area is Blitz (Wednesday & Thursday nights at Crookes Social Club, Mulehouse Road). I'd recommend Blitz on account of its size: the more dancers you have at an evening, the more good dancers there are likely to be, and the greater chance there is of finding people you really enjoy dancing with. (Last I heard, Ceroc generally has 30-50 dancers on an average evening, Blitz 120-150, I don't know about Easydance but it's another small one.)

They all follow the same format as quoted for Easydance above, except that Ceroc & Blitz start their beginners' classes earlier - about 7.35 to 7.40, giving you an extra 20-25 minutes freestyle because they finish at the same time.

www.blitzjive.com & www.ceroc.uk.com

Although it is a partner dance style, you don't need to come with a partner: everyone moves around in the classes so that you get to dance with experienced people as well as other beginners. During the evening, most people change partners every dance, which gives you the chance to dance with all the best people.

Entry is £6 at Blitz (not sure about the others: it's a while since I've been to a Ceroc evening and I've never been to Easydance in Sheffield). Since most people drink soft drinks and don't drink much because they're dancing all night, most people have a good night out for under a tenner.
