OK here’s one for you. How do I re-size a picture not by pixel size but by file size.
In other words if I have a picture that is 500k and I was to reduce it to 50K so it loads quicker on my web site, other than reducing it bit by bit how do I reduce it with one click down to 50k?
Thanks.

open it in paintshop pro 9 or corel paint, select save as, set the file type to jpeg, you may get an advanced option, otherwise when you click OK it will bring up another box with the file size. drop the bar down abit.
Found it neeeek. You have to click on options. I suppose I will find where to put the slider by trial and error?
I think Hotmail have introduced something where if you send an attachment it reduces them down to a certain size. I could alwaye email them to me?
Thanks neeeeek.

take a look at this website (microsoft)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
they have a "Picture resizer" program. It adds a button to the menu when you right click on a file in windows explorer etc. Really really usefull and quick!
That’s good Matt. It has given me some extra buttons, both when I click on save as and then go into options like neeeeek said and also there are more options in export. I am going to have to play with it to familiarize myself but you can adjust the compression level and see the results in a second window.
It seems very good, thanks for the tip Matt.

In Serif Photo plus use FILE - EXPORT OPTIMIZER. Choose JPG and then move the "quality" slider to your desired file size.
Do you know, I think I must be an idiot? I have the latest version which is Photo Plus 10 and in Export Optimiser there is a slider similar to other programs but you get a window as well and you can check the change in quality and you can magnify it up to see the pixilation and it tells you the size of the file depending on where the slider is. I have just found this feature and I think it is brilliant.
I also have Serif Page Plus 11 and not only will it export PDF but in this version you can edit PDF files as well.
I have had Serif software for years but I never found it “intuitive” but it they must be producing some of the best software there is these days and it always comes with a full manual.
Cheers for that, I have only just found the feature and it answers my need brilliantly.

Totally agree. We have the Serif set here at work and although Webplus is a bit poor, I think Photoplus and Pageplus are fantastic. I can open, edit and re-save a picture in PP long before Photoshop has even loaded.
