View Full Version : Chinese takeaway with beancurd (tofu) dizzymink 09-04-2006, 06:53 PM hiya, does anyone know of a GOOD chinese takeaway that does vegetarian beancurd dishes- needs to be in crookes/broomhill sort of area if possible.......thankya mc rad 09-04-2006, 07:14 PM sun yee in crookes does tofu dishes. it's avarage as takeaways go but no worse than anything else i've had in sheffield and their range is decent. Bago 09-04-2006, 11:35 PM It depends on which kind of 'tofu' u want. There's the deep-fried kind (but considered as dry), and a fresh kind (white, wobbly like jelly). As far as I know, most take-aways uses the deep-fried kind cos not many ppl order it. But it helps if u ring them up and ask. jake 09-04-2006, 11:41 PM WOK THIS WAY (groan...) on South Rd in Walkley does great tofu dishes - they dont deliver - but you can phone through your order. artstower 10-04-2006, 12:08 AM Dunno about beanturd :hihi: But Wong's kitchen in Upperthorpe is best Chinese around! Not much help to you, but so what! :D funkyukgal 10-04-2006, 03:16 AM Recommend Noodle Inn on london rd...they do deliveries...but not sure if they delivery to your area Sal22 10-04-2006, 07:09 AM There are some great ones on london road. For dry tofu get the salt and chilli tofu from noodle inn. It's a starter but its huge. For tofu in sauces wai hong (also on london road ) is great try garlic and hot bean sauce. And never ever try to cook unmarinated tofu in your own house :gag: CaptainSwing 11-04-2006, 04:19 PM Dizzy - if you're vegetarian on ethical grounds, beware that a lot of 'vegetarian' dishes in Chinese restaurants and takeaways contain oyster sauce, which is not vegetarian as, yes, it really does contain oysters. Always worth asking about this - the staff in these places have usually been very helpful when I've asked. Also, I believe that satay and black bean sauces are usually OK. Sal - it is possible to cook unmarinated tofu! The secret is to get the oil nice and hot before you put the tofu in. Oh, and you have to squeeze the moisture out of it first. fuzzy 11-04-2006, 09:28 PM New Hing Wah on School Rd does beancurd dishes, don't know what they are like as i have never had it, but meat dishes are good and it is a better chinese than Sun Yee on Crookes. Should probably try both - personally (as a tofu eater!) I like the Sun Yee a lot more (though I've only tried the other one once, and I suppose they might have been having an off day). funkyukgal 13-04-2006, 04:51 AM if you go to a chinese restaurant ask for puff tofu its soooooo yummy! you're just eating the skin really and when you bite into it all the lovely juices comes out :D mmmm Shame Noodle Inn doesnt do it. You can buy it in chinese supermarkets either frozen or refridgerated. Hmmm, might go to Noodle Inn tomorrow...sweet n sour tofu mmmm :D kieran 13-04-2006, 05:46 PM tim po moor, has great veggie dishes, loads of tofu/beancurd dishes but they don't deliver either but are really cheap to eat at, also if you ask about their veggie stuff it's all done properly and they take pride in it. |
