Do you mean the part of the ceiling came through with the people upstairs?

SilentStatic

Does this mean they'll have to stick more pillars in the middle of the dance floor?

Part of the ceiling downstairs just fell to the floor leaving a cloud of white dust and plaster all over the floor - lol it just adds to the class of the place :-)

I heard it was because it's unsafe down there... 100 people through one door wouldn't work well if there was a fire!

So is it shutting or is there just no more gigs?

DaBouncer

It WILL be shutting at some point cos they're tearing that whole section down (inlcuding the Grosvenor **** hole hotel).

However that's at some point within the next 2 yrs.
They should still be doing there DJ music until closure tho!

Was going to go to a gig at the casbah next month, but they've cancelled due to "the venue closing down".

Erm, anyone know what this is all about? Is it being closed down?

smelly

I presume this is why it's closing?

Anyone know whats going down at the casbah? And why it's cancelled all it's gigs?

I hear it's shutting down? Anyone know exactly whats happening?

Theyre not shutting down, theyre just stopping live music. A full explanation form the Casbahs manager can be found here (http://www.l2sb.co.uk/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=884&)

i have been told that it is going to get knocked down in a few years, and Cole Brothers is going to be build there. I have no idea if that's true though!

the knocking down is true and the owner will receive a bloody fortune

Personally I think this place is a disgrace...cheapest pint £2.90...what the f?

Well you know what to do if you don't like it - don't go! It's not a charity - it's a business, and I understand it's one that loads of people like! They must be doing something right.

And... when (IF) it is redeveloped, the owner will lose his livleyhood.

Well i decided I didnt like it... Havent been since will never go again . I was very insulted when one of the managing people rudely told me that it was no longer a "rock pub" and bikeing types who were flying colours were not welcome. it was never the same since the wap shut ..

Ah well.. I'll just have to catch abdou someplace else.

... Read his reasoning behind stopping band nights, and it makes no sense to me.

His reasoning goes that the place is packed on friday/saturday, but not on other nights when he does gigs... Surely this is probably more down to the other nights not being friday/saturday?

Or perhaps, not being picky enough about the acts put on.. Im really sure (for instance) abdou couldve pulled in the crowds.

Ah well... There isnt any other reason to go in there for me now.. (although I used to go in there loads when they had an 80's night on a thursday years back).. Last time I went in there on a weekend, after 35 minutes waiting to be served my first pint, I gave up and went home.

But I guess I'll wish them all the best for the future and all that.

I can understand his point have been there many times between monday and thursday and it is usually very quiet downstars except thursday nights which could be quite busy

dont see how this'll change by putting on non-band nights (or has he just shut it down on those nights)?

ah well.

It was over £5 for a double vodka and coke the other day....

Squiggs
07-05-2004, 20:46
it's the same for a double in the Devonshire cat though...

..annoying when it's your round, you've been drinking pints and then you get whacked with a huge bar bill =\

don't buy rounds if there are vast differences in the prices of the things you all drink!

I didn't like it much before it was redeveloped, and I like it even less now. I won't be sorry to see it go.

I doubt they will build a cole brothers there. The john lewis used to be cole brothers, they closed the store for a reason.

John Lewis and Coles are the same firm - they just changed the name to JLP a couple of years ago. We all seem to still call it Coles though :)

Its crazy to think they are stopping having bands. I think itS poor promotion. I mean they had Franz Ferdinand there before Xmas as well as Snow Patrol back in the day - that's something to be proud of!

MuteWitness

its a shame that they are not having bands on but there are alot of other venues like the leadmill and university which are normally more busy

its just badly run....the bar manager resigned last week after working 3 weeks soild of 10am-6pm and 9pm-4am...then he asked for a day off and got told no.

They sacked the promotions guy and didnt replace him.

They got a new sound guy but he didnt get paid so he quit.

They had some guys put a night on the other week and the price was arranged and the % to come from the bar etc

When they arrived the manager had "changed his mind", demanded a bigger cut and provided no sound guy....hence the people putting the night on had to charge more to cover costs which angered punters and also had to quickly arrange another sounds guy...it was touch and go if it was going to go ahead.

The place is a joke.
