View Full Version : Drugs Den Busted
ridgeracer 08-04-2006, 10:05 I see in the star that the police have busted a couple of drugs dens, where cannabis was growing. I wonder if either of these were the houses causing cannabis smells in peoples houses we read about on the forum a few weeks ago. Anyway well-done plod one for the good guys ;)
Mattenmurg 08-04-2006, 11:13 I don't think it smells while it's a plant. Only stinky when it's cut and treated, ie. the illegal bit.
I don't know this for sure, please don't sent them round mine for a bust:rolleyes:
NOOOOOO
damn police, catch some real criminals and leave the ganja smokers alone
(it most definately stinks while growing)
Phanerothyme 08-04-2006, 11:35 Cannabis plants are illegal from the moment they germinate from seed. They start to smell, if they are smelly ones, when they are in flower and continue to do so until harvested, cured and packed.
Given that the multi-million pound hydoponics industry in the UK also sells air filtration and smell reduction equipment to growers, any grower busted because of the smell emanating from their grow is clearly asking for it.
Busted? Should have gone to SmellSavers (http://www.aquaculture-hydroponics.co.uk/category.aspx?categoryID=225&subCategoryID=312) in Sheffield
Aye, they proper shoved that rifle-bore in my face!
Jimbob1989 08-04-2006, 12:09 damn police, catch some real criminals and leave the ganja smokers alone
 D R U G... D E A L E R S :)
damn police, catch some real criminals and leave the ganja smokers alone
Agree
Dam them filters are cheap cheers for the link.As for the bust someone who goes for that amount of weed deserves to get busted it would probally fund sum other illegal activity. As long as they leave the Homegrower who does it soley for there own personel consumption thats fine by me..
gularscute 08-04-2006, 17:09 So, a bunch of people become criminalised for growing PLANTS (!) that have countless positive benefits (As has been proved for millenia) and this is a cause for celebration?
doubt its the smells that gave em away to the plodz but the fact that if they have hydroponic labs in their lofts the thermal sensing cams on the police helicopters are picking em up. Its a matter of time before they get a call form sum1 trying to sell loft insulation or a raid from the lads n lasses in blue... wiv elmets n eavy sticks.
Attention all dope growers.... be kind to the environment... lag ur pipes and insulate properly and leave sum gas and oil for my kids and grandchildren.
Wannabeuk 08-04-2006, 19:53 Usually someone who grows in the ammounts needed to be classified as a drugs "den" and not just a homegrower. will most likly also supply other drug types i have no problem with weed. but any other drugs are a big NO.
Or the next door neighbors just grassed em up?
And no.. it wern't me
Phanerothyme 08-04-2006, 20:14 So, a bunch of people become criminalised for growing PLANTS (!) that have countless positive benefits (As has been proved for millenia) and this is a cause for celebration?
Criminalised for production of a class C drug.
They know it is against the law, so they should take precautions against getting caught.
If a complaint is lodged about the smell, then the police must follow it up, just doing their job.
Always, always, always, obey the 11th commandment.
Ozone generators are expensive, but they totally remove smells. However, if you are venting ozone laden air, that smells pretty funny too.
Also as has been pointed out elsewhere on the forum, the police helicopter costs thousands of pounds an hour to keep aloft, and is generally used for specific incidents.
They cannot afford to go on 'fishing trips' at night (the only time when thermal imaging equipment is useful) looking for badly insulated attics. Mostly because there are a lot of badly insulated attics in sheffield and onl;y a very few of them are growers, and any grower with an accessible cellar will be using that, because it's easier, safer and more discreet.
If the police have a priority in this area, it is busting the large commercial grows in industrial units and polytunnels up and down the country.
The last 'domestic' grow that I know of that was busted, was discovered because of a fire, which was down to the witless growers overloading electrical equipment in a 'wet' area.
Stupid = busted.
artstower 08-04-2006, 20:25 Cannabis should be a legalised product.
That way we can get taxes from all you junkies!
I wouldn't like to be smoking something that has been stuffed up some mule's rectum :gag:

Hence the popularity of domestic cannabis production, and this thread. Although given the tonnage consumed in the UK every year, imports tend to come in shipping containers, private yachts and HGVs, rather than up someone's bottom.
artstower 08-04-2006, 20:47 Totally correct!
My point is that it should be legalised. Reducing illegal imports ( of various means! ), thus a new legitimate industry can be created.
I guess tongue in cheek comments don't convey well to some people
Phanerothyme 08-04-2006, 20:55 Producers and purchasers should be taxed, I agree. But, like home brewers and vintners, people producing for their own consumption should be able to enjoy the fruits and flowers of their labour tax free.
But whereas you're not likely to brew up anything as good as Chateau Neuf or Chimay, you're not going to have a problem producing something finer than the best Phillip Morris or Gallagher Reefers, because quality cannabis husbandry works best on a small scale. The big conglomerates simply cannot produce cannabis to the same quality you or I could.
Unless irony or humour is totally explicit, I avoid referencing it - why? :)
Because there are plenty of people on the forum who aren't aware of the irony or humour of their post, and I wouldn't want to burst their bubble.
People take this as being a bit too earnest. Me, I just read what people write and respond. Then see if they meant it deliberately :D
Bartfarst 09-04-2006, 11:08 Excellent news, criminalise the criminals; it's the way ahead.
Obviously it's disappointing that they will, sadly, have their liberty when they should never see the light of day again, but maybe later, when society's drugs-induced downward spiral leads us to introduce more radical policing, we'll be able to get tough on these subversives and euthenise them on the spot.
Bartfarst, you might even be frightening if you were believable. You seem to be in danger of becoming a parody of yourself.
Swan_Vesta 09-04-2006, 11:54 IMO it should be legalised. But while legislation dictates that it is illegal then I say good on plod.
Gotta respect the law.

Wouldnt want to see you try that with a full grown bush :hihi:

Euthanising people on the spot has a number of tricky issues, but as a solution to getting rid of your personal list of undesireables it takes some beating.
Meanwhile, back in the real world....depending on thje number of plants/setup etc, the police may not even press charges. I'm familiar with a number of busted grows where the perpetrators got their equipment back (if it was confiscated- doesn't always happen) and received formal cautions or no action at all. Only egregiously large, commercial grows tend to attract the attention of the criminal justice system. Which is as it should be.
The recent reclassification has allowed the police to concentrate on catching proper criminals, like the ones selling peerages and honours, or ramping share prices in the Daily Mirror, to pick two random examples.

Still stalking my posts I see, Halibut.
happyhippy 09-04-2006, 20:24 Or the next door neighbors just grassed em up?

One of the better unintentional(?) puns I've seen ......
good reactions from some people here, even from the people who dont smoke it.
legalisation is a way forward, but you wouldnt even have to do that.
just make a law saying you may grow 3 plants for personal consumption in your own premises.but i doubt stuff like this is ever gonna happen.
RunningFree 11-04-2006, 12:52 Would be nice if they legalised it fully. I am in the army and can't do it anymore because they test occasionally!
AlquarUK 11-04-2006, 16:37 whats the big deal with people growing a bit of weed?
Stoners just giggle and mong out, not go round smashing stuff, fighting and causing a nuisance.
booze should be outlawed, not weed!
