View Full Version : Horse & Jockey, Wadsley Lane - The return of Mad Muzz !
Dj_Shadowman 07-04-2006, 10:05 Hi Honey, I'm home
Just to let everyone know, im now back at the horse & jockey doing the rock nights starting tonight !
Also doing the quiz & play your cards right every Thursday night, cash prize for the quiz and a rollover jackpot for the play your cards right.
So, come on down, you will have a good night and the beers great ( I know, I drink enough of it :hihi: )
NEKRO138 07-04-2006, 10:31 You say rock night - can you be a bit more specific? Is it like Slayer, Danzig, Pantera etc. Or is it like old biker rock? Don't get me wrong - I love me old biker rock!
Dj_Shadowman 07-04-2006, 12:53 Will mainly be old "classic" rock....but like I always say, if I have it I will play it.
Dj_Shadowman 07-04-2006, 13:15 Tell you what, I will make sure I have some of the above for tonight
Classic Rock 07-04-2006, 16:07 Classic rock? Did you call me?
So you're doing every Thursday now, and you've got my old job down there. Cool.

Decided to call it a day on the other thursday job, wrong type of place for it I think.
As you know, im a lot happier at the jockey, get paid to get drunk and abuse people :hihi:
The Jockey has gone totally down hill (since the new landlady arrived) it's untrue. Used to be such a great pub, it's a real shame!
MuteWitness 08-04-2006, 10:23 Only just looked at this post - will go down next week!
Dj_Shadowman 08-04-2006, 10:54 The Jockey has gone totally down hill (since the new landlady arrived) it's untrue. Used to be such a great pub, it's a real shame!
So, in your opinion, whats wrong with it ?
With only a couple of days advertising it was packed to the rafters last night - cant be that bad can it !
As I hear it when the new owners (Ross & Jackie) took over the first thing they did was get rid of the druggies, people selling stolen gear etc
Since that I have only ever heard of one fight, and that was started by a non local.
Its the only pub I know of where a pub football team can sit next to a load of bikers and everyone getting on
Only wish there were more pubs like this and in my humble opinion, Ross & Jackie are fantastic hosts and I would bet there are more forum members that would agree with me there.....

Who told you that, Ross & Jackie? There was never any drugs or stolen gear, it was a really friendly "family" pub. It may be packed to the rafters; but with completely different people to those who frequented it previously. The atmosphere is very aggressive nowadays, even the old quiz master (a friend of mine) resigned because of being intimidated by Ross. True...
Dj_Shadowman 09-04-2006, 00:00 Cant see how you think it has an aggressive atmosphere, unless you have been in on a wednesday night when its full of bikers.
Even then, its nice and calm with never any bother, ok, it may get a little loud at times but what would you expect.
A lot of the regulars have told me that Ross and Jackie got rid of the "trouble element", and its a family friendly pub now.
On Friday night there were couples in with new born babies etc and everyone was having a good time.
As for Ross being intimidating, what can I say, he is one of the nicest blokes I have ever known, if anything ever goes wrong with my bike he is happy to sort it out for me - he has also sorted other forum members bikes out or lent them tools when needed.
I have only one question - have you been in recently ?
I've only been in a couple of times since the changeover, and it seems OK to me. Yeah, it's a different type of clientele, but then again I'd rather have a nice mix of people than no people, no atmosphere and always out of beer - which was how the Jockey was before the new owners. It definitely had a sense of being wound down, which is not what a local pub should be like. Used to like the music quiz in there a couple of years ago (mebbee you should resurrect that one to Dj_shad)! Good luck with it mate
Dj_Shadowman 09-04-2006, 11:06 Feargal,
We did try the music quiz a while ago but it ended up dying of natural causes !
But as the saying goes, never say never, might have another go at it.
Just to let you know, we tried a once a month karaoke night and it went down a treat.
So, next Friday we are going to do it again
Lyrics on the projector screen, radio mikes etc, if its anything like the last one it will be a fantastic night - people up singing non stop.
And you may even get to see me doing a few of the "naughty" songs :hihi:
Well, if you do try the music quiz again make sure you post it on here. In fact, why not organise a Forum quiz night? Think of the rivalries that could be settled with that. :o Of course, I would expect to win, what with having thought of the idea. :hihi:
Dj_Shadowman 09-04-2006, 11:25 I did suggest a forum meet there once before but everyone moaned it was too far away etc...
Pity, as Ross and Jackie were willing to organise food etc - in fact Ross was going to do one of his famous curries (and as he spent a few years in India he really can do a good one)

That is very different to what I have heard from the locals.
And as for Ross, he is a fantastic bloke who would never intimidate anyone without a good reason. I know this, I work there :D!

Seconded right here!
Dj_Shadowman 09-04-2006, 12:03 Seconded right here!
You tell 'em Ian.
Like the hair by the way, didnt recognise you on Friday :hihi:
Will call you Sonic now...
Going up to the jockey this afternoon and I printed this thread out about 30 mins ago - Ross will have a good laugh about this one - especially the bit about the old quiz master "resigning"
Then again, he may well see this before I get there as he is a registered forum member if I remember correctly.
I have only one question - have you been in recently ?
Not for about a month. I suppose it must be doing something right if so many of you are speaking so highly of the place; but personally I liked the atmosphere better with previous landlords. I'm very surprised though that some people have mentioned the fact that it used to have a bad reputation?! We used to go in about five nights a week for over three years and can honestly say it was one of the most friendliest and relaxed atmospheres of any pub I've been in. I used to go in with friends, girlfriends, family, work mates etc and always found it very welcoming (whoever I was with). It's the closest pub to my house, so hopefully something will happen for me to be tempted back... Get yer thinking caps on eh! ;)

Oh yes that was fun, for the people singing anyway.
Hopefully next time they'll be some better entries or I'm bringing my earphones next time I work on Kareoke night.

I wont comment about the standard of the singing - but its not about if you can sing or not, its all about having fun.
And on that score - mission accomplished
We might have to club together to get Wayne some singing lessons though :hihi:
It went crazy when Andy & myself did "I predict a riot" :hihi:
Notice you didnt sing Blondrick...
This week :
Wednesday...long riders bike club meet
Thursday......quiz & play your cards right
Friday..........live band
Saturday......disco
Sunday........sport on big screen
Notice you didnt sing Blondrick...
Erm yeah....too much work to do behind the bar mate :hihi:
No doubt you'll hold me to this, I'll only do Kareoke when I'm drunk. Simple as that.
Have we persuaded you to do organise a special Forummer's pop quiz challenge complete with curry and suitably naff prizes yet, DJ_shadowman? I reckon I could summon up a team, and surely SWFC00 should defend his honour?
Any more takers? :D

Well, there's two teams right there DJ_Shadowman! Team Feargal -v- Team Meaks. Unless of course we join forces to take on the might of the Sheffield Forum? Not sure exactly what ales are there, but I'm sure the Meaks Radar will find us more than a can of Bass Shandy and a glass of R Whites for the ladies. :D
Dj_Shadowman 04-05-2006, 14:39 Just to let you all know the quiz is on tonight.
Also, coming soon - £100 quiz, no heats, the winner of the nights quiz walks away with £100 in cash.
This is going to be a monthly thing and I will post more details as soon as I know.
deelightful3 21-06-2006, 05:08 Is there anything on at the horse and jockey this friday the 23rd?

Whats with all the bikers?!
Dj_Shadowman 21-06-2006, 18:35 Whats with all the bikers?!
Could have something to do with the owners being bikers and turning the horse and jockey into a rock pub :headbang:
Biker night on Wednesdays.
Rock night on Fridays.
Ghostrider 14-07-2006, 16:50 Having nothing better to do a couple of weeks ago I went to this pub.
The owners are great - little un-nerving when you realise the long haired harley riding biker is the owner :o
A great night though - nice to meet you muzz.
Gotta say it though, you are a total maniac, I can see why they love you in that pub
Will be back there very soon.
I have to say Ross and Jacqueline are a fine team and no way is Ross intimidating he is cool and a good bloke. But then they are my relatives.
