Thank you to everyone for their feedback on Thursday nights. At a committee meeting on July 4, we decided to relaunch Thursday nights at Ponds Forge, as many members had expressed an interest in a more central location with what are generally considered to be better courts. We're going to start by booking two courts for two sessions (from 8pm to 9.30pm) and monitoring whether we see an increase in numbers.

We'd like Thursday nights to be a 'club night' as opposed to Tuesdays which - we're all agreed - is a fantastic 'social club night'. At the Thursday 'club night' everyone is welcome to play. However, it will be a night for players wanting to improve their game. Whereas more experienced players may 'soften' their game when playing against less experienced players on a Tuesday night, on Thursdays we'd like them to be able to play to the best of their ability - and possibly provide tips/advice to those looking to improve their game. Over the years, we've seen players arrive at SFBC as near beginners and progress at an amazing rate, with some going on to represent the club in league games. We'd like players of all levels to feel welcome on both Tuesday and Thursday nights.

We want Thursdays to be a way of giving our more competitive players a chance to play higher level games. SFBC was set up to be inclusive, friendly and fun - and there's no reason that spirit cannot continue with higher level badminton or as players try to improve their game.

We are always happy to hear feedback from club players and feel free to get in touch via sfbc@live.co.uk, Facebook, or by talking to a member of the committee at any time.

We would ask you to respect the decision of the committee and ask for your support and co-operation in working with us to make the relaunch of Thursday nights as successful as possible.

Fantastic to see, no doubt! But the 'original' Thursday also started with strong numbers. I hope and think that just being a second club night rather than for any particular kind of player should however help it last longer with decent numbers.

I think the biggest benefit is purely having a night for those who simply cannot make Tuesdays which is good to see.

I don't suppose anyone would be driving there and passing near Kelham Island/City Centre and would be willing to pick up a badminton-keen stranger like myself on their way :)

Patrick, it's usually at Ponds Forge but no courts at the minute, Concord next week too I believe, keep checking the posts from Celine with the updated venue. I can't offer a lift I'm afraid but the 47/48/88 buses drop fairly close to Concord and run regularly from town. Call Travel South Yorkshire for confirmation or check the clubs Facebook page for another chance of a response.
