View Full Version : Albert Road and Meersbrook in general - what's it like?
frannyglass 06-04-2006, 20:14 Hello, I've seen a lovely house I'd like to rent on Albert Road, Meersbrook, and having had a walk around the park and the surrounding area, I'm really impressed. But I've read a few comments on here about trouble around the park, cars being overturned etc, so I'd really like to know what it's like to live in Meersbrook, particularly for families, and any thoughts on this road in particular.
Thanks!

I have two mates from Rushdale Road, which is pretty close on to Albert Road. One of them moved out two years ago and the other is still there.
The one who moved away couldn't put up with the constant harrassment from the local (and in some cases, not so local) a*******s. The one who is still there has an attitude that he tells these same a*******s that he will not put up with any crap and that if they cause him any grief he will find as many of them as he can and administer bruised & broken grief. Knowing that they were involved would not be an issue and simply being associated with those who were suspected would be enough to justify pain & suffering.
So far this had only had to be administered on a couple of occasions & he has an extremely quiet & trouble free existance.
You make your choice regarding how to deal with scum & conduct yourself accordingly.
Theres another thread on this topic somewhere.
I've lived in Meersbrook 2 years now and I love it. Its the friendliest place I've ever lived and its great being near the park and I love the nice wide roads, makes it feel less crammed in than places like crookes or walkley.
I know loads of really nice people who live in the area and I've never had any trouble from any kids. Not even noticed any hanging around for ages... maybe a few skateboarding kids sometimes. I'd recommend it to anyone househunting.
I've lived there 3 years and never seen any gangs. I moved from Sharrow and at first I didn't sleep well for a week as it was too quiet at night, apart from the owls and foxes screeching.
I think the gangs the SheffieldBus made reference to were at the shop on Valley road near the opening of the park but as far as I am aware that was last year. I never saw or heard them. Infact I have never seen any trouble on this road.
officegirl 07-04-2006, 07:48 i agree Anne23 i love meersbrook been living round here for nearly 3 years and its great, close to some good pubs, great park and its got a nice community feel to it.
i would definitely move in to the house you've seen - meersbrook is great
I've lived in Meersbrook for 4 years, and I've never had any trouble from kids or anyone else. In fact it's one of the nicest, friendliest places I've ever lived.
There was a big gang of kids hanging around outside Steve's shop a couple of years ago, but lots of local people got involved with the police to sort it out. Steve put a security camera up outside his shop, the people around the shop installed security gates to stop the kids lurking up the surrounding passageways and the police sorted out the ringleaders. Since then, you just get the odd few hanging around.
Albert Road is a lovely road. I don't know how old your kids are, but depending on whereabouts you'd be living on Albert Road, you'd be in the catchment area for Carfield Primary School, which is very good:

basshedz2 07-04-2006, 08:47 I've lived in Meersbrook for a year (at the top of the park) and have seen no trouble. There are the occasional kids hanging around near the shops, but they never cause any trouble. I'd highly recommend it.

I know Albert Road quite well and considered living there once, and still would if the right house came up.
Plus, one of the nicest, if not the nicest, city councillors represents that area.
crookesey 07-04-2006, 09:02 Meersbrook used to be a very good area, it went down hill badly but is very much on the way up. Still some good value around to buy but renting is cheaper than most S7,S10 &S11lets. Nice people make nice districts the more that come in the quicker the bad element will look for somewhere else to terrorise.
My girlfriend lives on Shirebrook Road, which is parallel to Albert Road,it's really nice and quiet and peaceful.
I'd always lived in the Hunters Bar area so the lack of student noise is a welcome break.
It's like anywhere though, you'd be foolish not to expect a little of the usual groups of bored kids, and the odd tale of a break in I suppose.
One of the best pubs in Sheffield-the Sheaf View is on your doorstep too,not to mention Meersbrook Park, and great views of the hills.
The people I've met through my work that live locally seem really friendly and laid back, there's many young families that found Meersbrook/Heeley an ideal choice as they found themselves outpriced of the usual suspects of good school areas like Millhouses/Greystones etc.
Cagey Jay 09-04-2006, 21:24 Like Crooksey said Nice people make nice areas, We've been here 14 years, nearly moved away 2 years ago when there was a lot of trouble with gangs of kids but the thing that made us stay was the nice people around us. Its nice and quiet again now (seems to come in 10 year cycles?) so I'd say go for it, at least you've got 8 years to give it a go!!
