Is it like grunge, but grittier?

I thought this thread was going to be about a new tv programme about how scruffy sheffield is :)

Hi Maaaandy. Can you enlighten me on what is new about the grime scene in Sheffield?

There isn't really one..
I heard All Out on 1xtra... weren't that good..
No clubs play grime up here...

and for the record Kano isn't strictly a grime mc, apart from when 'hes on the grime scene gettin reloads'

and like someone else said, it ain't new.

Grime's been around for about 5 years now, and there's not a lot of it that's really that amazing. Dizzee Rascal's about the biggest grime star I can think of, but the Sheffield scene is all 14-year-old kids shouting about 'bitches' and guns... crap. Where's the skills, like beatboxing, scratching and breakin, like hip-hop (and it's sub-genres) used to be about?

I think that it's away in which the kids can get their voices heard *not my thing* I'd rather they be singing about it than doing it

i cant see a point in grime existing when DUBSTEP is around.much better, not about guns or violence, rarely has mc's and its chilled.

Like others have said, Grime has been around for a while now. Although there are no regular grime nights in Sheffield, there are a handful of Grime crews around...

Also Heartless Crew have appeared at SADACCA a few times, and C90 has brought Jammer to Sheffield.

I'm expecting it to blow up bigger here sometime soon though...

hmm. that's a little bit jaundiced man.

anyway, for those that don't know on this thread, 'grime' is a term for a form of UK music. its uptempo, electronic and MC-led.

whatever your point of view about this form of music, check www.c90.org for details of the upcoming event feturing the mighty DIGITAL MYSTIKZ. heavy heavy dubstep action and i'll be dropping some grime too.

shameless bit of self-promotion there :)

I have just moved up from London and there aren't many grime nights in London anymore due to the trouble it attracts.

The music is badly produced, it sounds cheap and lazy and the mc's are awful!

Its all about attitude, cussing other mc's, seeing who can do the baddest gun finger etc, not a good scene at all, not surprised many clubs in London refuse to hold grime nights.

grimes class! just that few d***heads have to ruin it for everyone who doesn't want any trouble. It's one of those genres that you either love or hate though. Can't wait for this mixtape, although the start of this thread was a bit vague maaaandy!

The beauty of music is everyone has their own tastes, although Grimes not for me I appreciate there are people who are gonna love it.

I hate mc's who chat about violence, gats, bitches etc There are some drum and bass mc's who do the same and I hate them. Give me conrad or sp anyday.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC.
