View Full Version : Fatal road accident - Long Lane Kirk Edge andyk68 04-04-2006, 07:14 Anyone know whats happening or happened at Long lane, kirk edge. The whole road is closed off by police and I heard reports of a young woman being found, alive i think quite a way from a crashed car. RazorSHarp 04-04-2006, 07:17 You pretty much know about as much as anyone else at the moment then. The road is going to be closed for much of the morning. andyk68 04-04-2006, 07:22 Do we know when it all started? I was informed by a work colleague who drove by. pitsmoorlad 04-04-2006, 08:35 Let's hope its nothing too serious. Please let us know if you find owt out. Strix 04-04-2006, 08:38 According to Hallam FM, the driver is missing, and the car hit both a tree and a wall I hope she's okay Greybeard 04-04-2006, 09:18 I wouldn't be surprised at yet another accident on that bend where Brick Row used to be, the camber of the road there is the complete opposite of what it needs to be. The other hazard there are the geese kept at the house just before that bend, these are running loose and often come out on the road to threaten passing cars :loopy: Strix 04-04-2006, 09:20 It makes a great joyrider trap then? Lindseyw 04-04-2006, 09:24 where exactly is this - i have a mental block this morning ?!?! Strix 04-04-2006, 09:28 So does Multimap :suspect: Strix 04-04-2006, 09:30 google helped out (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&search_result=&db=pc&cidr_client=none&lang=&keepicon=true&pc=S350AE&advanced=false&client=public&addr2=&quicksearch=S35+0AE&addr3=&addr1=) Lindseyw 04-04-2006, 09:31 The only one I could think of was in Killamarsh !! andyk68 04-04-2006, 09:34 The Long Lane in question is the one just after the Admiral Rodney at Loxley. Lindseyw 04-04-2006, 09:35 thanks for that ! Greybeard 04-04-2006, 09:41 google helped out (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&search_result=&db=pc&cidr_client=none&lang=&keepicon=true&pc=S350AE&advanced=false&client=public&addr2=&quicksearch=S35+0AE&addr3=&addr1=) You need to pan down a bit. The bad bend is on Long lane, - between Stubbin lane and the junction with Kirk Edge road. In the past six years we've seen three cars embedded in the wall there. Dunno if they were joy riders though, any stranger doing more than 25 mph round that bend could find themselves in the wall or on the wrong side of the road if coming up the hill from Loxley, and it's even more hairy in the dark :( andyk68 04-04-2006, 09:43 Not neccessarily just strangers get caught out. I live local and it quite often catches me out. That and Rowell bridge. Another famous flower store. RazorSHarp 04-04-2006, 09:54 I feel sorry for the family that live on that corner, I bet they've had a number of vehicles parked in their garden over the years !! I used to go to Bradfield School and can remember we used to cut accross the golf course when we skived off rather than walk round that corner, even now I always pay it respect and slow right down when I drive round it. NEKRO138 04-04-2006, 09:55 A girl in her late teens has been injured. She's in hospital. I heard the helicopter last night and when I tried to go down there this morning, it was closed. Hope she recovers. Strix 04-04-2006, 10:03 They've just told us on the radio that she didn't make it :( andyk68 04-04-2006, 10:09 If this is true then my condolences to the family. And I hope they get to the bottom of it. NEKRO138 04-04-2006, 10:44 If this is true then my condolences to the family. And I hope they get to the bottom of it. Amen to that. andyk68 04-04-2006, 10:46 Appararantly the Police are looking for a man in connection, possibly the driver as stated in an earlier post. So, was this a police chase gone wrong? Coxy 04-04-2006, 10:57 The police helicopter was up over the area for a good hour last night with its searchlight on. It seemed to be centred over a specific area and not involved in following anyone who might have been involved in a chase but I can't be definate on that. andyk68 04-04-2006, 13:02 Has anyone heard any updates on this yet? I'm stuck at work with no radio. SALLYLIS 04-04-2006, 13:33 Apparently, they do know the identity of the driver but he did a runner and hasn't turned up yet. It really should just be a matter of time - he cant run forever especially when the police know who he is. Greybeard 04-04-2006, 13:37 Was the victim a pedestrian or a passenger in the car ? Either way it's the third fatality from reckless driving in as many weeks  andyk68 04-04-2006, 13:41 UPDATE This form the south yorkshire police site. South Yorkshire Police - Appeal for Information - Traffic Police are urgently seeking information to a serious road traffic collision in which a 17 year old woman died. It is believed that the woman was a passenger in a Subaru car that crashed on the outskirts of Sheffield. The incident happened at around 0130 hrs on Tuesday 4 April 2006 on Long Lane at Worrall on the outskirts of Sheffield. It is reported that a silver Subaru Impreza car was involved in a single vehicle collision on Long Lane. It is believed that the driver of the Subaru lost control of his vehicle on the brow of a hill. The vehicle subsequently collided with some trees and a wall at the side of the road. The full circumstances of the collision are still under investigation and enquiries in to the cause of the collision are still ongoing. Following the collision the road was closed until 1030 hrs this morning. The driver of the vehicle subsequently left the scene of the collision and police are now anxious to trace him. The young woman who died in the collision has this afternoon been named by police as Kirsty Cash, aged 17 years from Southey Green in Sheffield. Kirsty lived at home with her mum and dad, Joanne and Stanley Cash. Kirsty worked in the Hotel Services Department of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. Kirsty was taken to the Northern General Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police are urgently appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information about the driver of the vehicle to make contact with the investigation team. Police are also appealing for the driver of the Subaru car to make contact with them and to surrender himself to a police station. Sergeant Chris Townend of the Road Policing Group said "We know the identity of the driver involved in this fatal collision and we need to speak with him urgently. We would appeal to him to do the decent thing and to surrender himself to police." Witnesses or anyone with information should contact the South Yorkshire Police accident witness line on Sheffield 0114 2202970. 04 April 2006 Coxy 04-04-2006, 14:02 The incident happened at around 0130 hrs on Tuesday 4 April 2006 on Long Lane at Worrall on the outskirts of Sheffield. That doesn't fit with the time I saw the Police helicopter. It was around the area from about 11.30 - 00.30. I can't imagine that the two aren't connected though. Greybeard 04-04-2006, 14:23 From the police description of the location it seems to have happened between Myers lane and Stubbin lane at he top of the hill. Quite easy to lose contact with the ground at speed on that hump, - and it was icy in these parts last night. Poor girl's family will be devasted :( candystick 04-04-2006, 16:45 I am now sat here with tears streaming down my face as i know the girl who has died, what a waste of life. wardy2005 04-04-2006, 17:34 kirsty was my best mate wen i wa 5 to being about 11 yr old aw bless her i loves her to pieces n still do i miss u kisty love ya loads Appolo 04-04-2006, 18:17 My wife worked with Kirsty at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital. So many lives ruined because of what appears to be an avoidable accident. I'm sure the young man will turn up. He obviously panicked, and did a runner, which suggests that he may not have been driving properly at the time. But then not many of us are perfect drivers all the time, its just that sometimes the consequences are tragic. candystick 05-04-2006, 11:24 Story is on the front page of the star. Bizzy_Lizzy 06-04-2006, 11:43 I send my deepest sympathy out to this young girls family and friends http://www.looklocal.org.uk/news.php?id=1168 The idiot that caused the death of this young woman was seen going into the pub a few hours before the acciedent. dont you think its a bit irionic that his brother had been awarded £1.2 million less than a few months ago for being starved of oxygen at birth leaving him severely disabled then he manages to buy himself a subaru even though he has no job. Seems to me hat he's been spending the money his brother was awarded causing the death of an innocent teen. What kind of trouble is he going to get up to inside, we already know he is a snivelling little coward so chances are he will keep his head down. If they think he will come out and be a model citizen they only have to look at his past record, I think it said on news 16 previous convictions and he is only just twenty, what does that tell you about his character. And the ludicrously low sentence his mum and stepdad got beggars belief. I can't imagine what Kirsty's parents are going through they probably thought they would see some justice for Kirsty. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Kirsty's family and we wish you the best of luck on appeal that scum like them get a proper sentence that reflects the crime. Nice to see the courts got this one right though ! the disabled brother has 5 carers who look after him better hat them they only looked im in a room with a tv they neva bothere with him supergirl 28-09-2006, 23:13 just caught a snippet on news ( had 1 screaming baby so couldnt hear it all ) im sure it said hed got life and the people that helped him got 6months yes he got life but can be up for parole in 4 years supergirl 28-09-2006, 23:19 I think the conditions are that if he's not considered to be a danger to the public in 4 and half years he'll be considered for parole. Strangely there was no mention of any driving ban - he should be banned for at least ten years so that if he does get out early and drives a car again before the ban expires he'll be back inside sine die. there is a ban for 10 years but he was already banned so why should that stop him from driving again hes still got all tha money to buy another one when he gets out supergirl 28-09-2006, 23:22 How very sad a young life wasted. hi there who is this supergirl 28-09-2006, 23:24 Hi mark i agree with you!
