Anyone know whats happening or happened at Long lane, kirk edge. The whole road is closed off by police and I heard reports of a young woman being found, alive i think quite a way from a crashed car.

I wouldn't be surprised at yet another accident on that bend where Brick Row used to be, the camber of the road there is the complete opposite of what it needs to be. The other hazard there are the geese kept at the house just before that bend, these are running loose and often come out on the road to threaten passing cars :loopy:

You need to pan down a bit.

The bad bend is on Long lane, - between Stubbin lane and the junction with Kirk Edge road. In the past six years we've seen three cars embedded in the wall there. Dunno if they were joy riders though, any stranger doing more than 25 mph round that bend could find themselves in the wall or on the wrong side of the road if coming up the hill from Loxley, and it's even more hairy in the dark :(

Not neccessarily just strangers get caught out. I live local and it quite often catches me out. That and Rowell bridge. Another famous flower store.

I feel sorry for the family that live on that corner, I bet they've had a number of vehicles parked in their garden over the years !!

I used to go to Bradfield School and can remember we used to cut accross the golf course when we skived off rather than walk round that corner, even now I always pay it respect and slow right down when I drive round it.

A girl in her late teens has been injured. She's in hospital. I heard the helicopter last night and when I tried to go down there this morning, it was closed. Hope she recovers.

Appararantly the Police are looking for a man in connection, possibly the driver as stated in an earlier post. So, was this a police chase gone wrong?

The police helicopter was up over the area for a good hour last night with its searchlight on. It seemed to be centred over a specific area and not involved in following anyone who might have been involved in a chase but I can't be definate on that.

Has anyone heard any updates on this yet? I'm stuck at work with no radio.

Apparently, they do know the identity of the driver but he did a runner and hasn't turned up yet. It really should just be a matter of time - he cant run forever especially when the police know who he is.

Was the victim a pedestrian or a passenger in the car ? Either way it's the third fatality from reckless driving in as many weeks :mad:

South Yorkshire Police - Appeal for Information - Traffic
Police are urgently seeking information to a serious road traffic collision in which a 17 year old woman died. It is believed that the woman was a passenger in a Subaru car that crashed on the outskirts of Sheffield.

The incident happened at around 0130 hrs on Tuesday 4 April 2006 on Long Lane at Worrall on the outskirts of Sheffield.

It is reported that a silver Subaru Impreza car was involved in a single vehicle collision on Long Lane. It is believed that the driver of the Subaru lost control of his vehicle on the brow of a hill. The vehicle subsequently collided with some trees and a wall at the side of the road.

The full circumstances of the collision are still under investigation and enquiries in to the cause of the collision are still ongoing.

Following the collision the road was closed until 1030 hrs this morning.

The driver of the vehicle subsequently left the scene of the collision and police are now anxious to trace him.

The young woman who died in the collision has this afternoon been named by police as Kirsty Cash, aged 17 years from Southey Green in Sheffield. Kirsty lived at home with her mum and dad, Joanne and Stanley Cash. Kirsty worked in the Hotel Services Department of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

Kirsty was taken to the Northern General Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are urgently appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information about the driver of the vehicle to make contact with the investigation team.

Police are also appealing for the driver of the Subaru car to make contact with them and to surrender himself to a police station.

Sergeant Chris Townend of the Road Policing Group said "We know the identity of the driver involved in this fatal collision and we need to speak with him urgently. We would appeal to him to do the decent thing and to surrender himself to police."

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact the South Yorkshire Police accident witness line on Sheffield 0114 2202970.

The incident happened at around 0130 hrs on Tuesday 4 April 2006 on Long Lane at Worrall on the outskirts of Sheffield.

That doesn't fit with the time I saw the Police helicopter. It was around the area from about 11.30 - 00.30. I can't imagine that the two aren't connected though.

From the police description of the location it seems to have happened between Myers lane and Stubbin lane at he top of the hill. Quite easy to lose contact with the ground at speed on that hump, - and it was icy in these parts last night.

Poor girl's family will be devasted :(

When my wife clocked in for her shift at 5 PM tonight she was taken to a room along with other people who knew Kirsty or worked with her,they were all told the shocking news & all the details ( which I will not divulge as there is an ongoing police investigation )my wife is devastated & is now on her way back home after breaking down in tears .

When i said police chase gone wrong i was not stating that i was on the side of the driver of the crashed car and not the police's. I firmly believe that if someone steals a car then they should get whats coming to them everytime. And before anyone else fancies a pop, I know that the car in this case was NOT stolen.

Yes I've since found that out. Obviously poster 43 knew the person because she went to school with Kirsty. His brother was starved of oxygen at birth and neglected at pontefract hospital, allegedly. Thats why they had a big payout and not an accident as you stated.

on 4th april my sister kirsty went out with her friends in a new car that andrew bennett had bought when he his a banned driver went out and about 1am was taking kirsty and her friend joanne kilnerfarr who lives in southey was on there way home when kirsty dropped her cigarette on the floor in the car so he stopped and then he drove off fast so she didnt get chance to put her seat belt on. the car went too fast he couldnt handle it . its front wheel came off and spun around and kirsty came out off the front window over a wall
then andrew bennett called his mum and step dad which came and towed the car down the road and set it on fire NEVER CALLED AN AMBULANCE they put kirsty and joanne in the car and took her to their house and laid her on their setee bleeding internally.
they took her phone off her as she tried to ring the police
and said let her sleep it off.
bye time the ambulance came kirsty had died and andrew bennet had ran off.

Just seen on news that he's got an 'indeterminate' life sentence. So potentially he could be locked up for a very, very long time. Six months for his mother and the other person that helped him.

So let me get this straight if he stays out of trouble he could be out in 4 years. What kind of trouble is he going to get up to inside, we already know he is a snivelling little coward so chances are he will keep his head down. If they think he will come out and be a model citizen they only have to look at his past record, I think it said on news 16 previous convictions and he is only just twenty, what does that tell you about his character. And the ludicrously low sentence his mum and stepdad got beggars belief. I can't imagine what Kirsty's parents are going through they probably thought they would see some justice for Kirsty. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Kirsty's family and we wish you the best of luck on appeal that scum like them get a proper sentence that reflects the crime.

there is a ban for 10 years but he was already banned so why should that stop him from driving again hes still got all tha money to buy another one when he gets out
