Has anyone been to the Sheffield Festival of Transport Show in Graves Park?

I was thinking of attending this year with my Car, I have been told I get to enter it under the "Exotic and Sports Cars" section as it doesn't meet the other age requirements. :D

The application form for the event can be found here

http://www.transtarpromotions.co.uk/

Apart from the Sheffield Festival of Transport show does anyone know any other local events worth attending in the summer? Hopefully we can build a list up and place a sticky for the group.

What yer drivin?
I could be going with the BMW club, but as yet that isn't finalised. There is a possibility thet I could take the Spitty providing the engine transplant goes according to plan. If we could get enough forummers interested could we not go as our own group?

Does anyone know the date for Hope classic car show? Usually go to that one as some real classy stuff there as a rule...

Went to the Festival of Transport last year. Was a really good day out. The judging left a little to be desired. If it's sunny don't forget your sun cream as there is very little in the way of cover.

We will be attending again this year with our 1980 Ford Fiesta & our 1984 Sierra XR4i.

Phylis,

What class do you enter under your cars under out of interest?

Oh and is the pre-application form necessary or can you pay on the day?

Phylis

You can pay on the day but your car won't be entered for judging.

They are both entered under classic saloon. Class F if I remember correctly.

I think I might pre-register anyway, not a great loss at £2 if the car isn't ready by then.

Phylis

Take it anyway. There were plenty of half finished cars last year.

Yes but I am sure they were road legal ;)

Get friendly with someone who has a trailer. A lot of the exotic cars and half finished cars were transported.

Isn't looking likely the the Maestro will be reading in time for the Sheffield show, and the other Maestro has just topped it so needs fixing.

Hopefully I can attend on foot though.

Anyone know what the entrance fee is for non-exhibitors?

Phylis

Free £3.00 for parking in the visitors car park though.

Keep an eye out for us!

I will keep an eye out for some fiestas.

What is the best time to arrive do you know? I may just get the other half to drop me off, as he is still busy working on the Maestro.

A friend of mine is asking if it is possible to show his car without booking? Does anyone know?

Skatiechik no you have to book so that you can show your car as far as i'm aware, but they are still looking for cars to show as far as i can tell as i have just received our passes in the post today and they say that on a note with them.

We have managed to cobble together a Peugeot Sport Club stand with 12 cars so will have some nice old school 205's on show and even a 405 T16

I think you can turn up on the day and pay. Go to the bottom entrance by the animal farm and have a word with the marshalls, im sure they will let you in.

I went today, saw the trabant, and I also saw what I think was you and your partner Phylis. I was going to speak but you were sat behind the cars chating with some other people and I didn't like to intrude.

No maestros there though :(

I went today with mrs ang to be- it was a very good day out.
The batmobile was my personal port of call today and it didnt dissapoint- although batman was crap, and his costume looked utter cack as well.

The rest of the event was great- the wall of death was fabulous for £1 each as well, and I liked Kerrie's new pimped up gocart with underglow blue lighting!

All in all a great day- photos coming soon!!

My maestro was in the public car park, someone left a card on the windscreen.
I thought the monstro team were going to turn out to graves park so I went to have a look. :( never mind, maybe next year!
P.S. maestro still for sale, cheap.

It probably was us if it was a black XR4i and a little green Fiesta with chrome bumpers. You should have come and said hello, you wouldn't have been intruding.

Next show for us is at Hope Sports Ground on the 16th July.

A fella from the S.Yorks Capri club approached us about a show in Ravesfield on the 24th September. Sounds like it could be fun with camping on the 23rd. He also had a black XR4i there.

Erm I wonder who could have left that there   Ours will be there next year, it is still touch and go if it will make it to MG Saloon Day this coming weekend. The other half has taken all week off work to try and get it ready.

I wanted to go to this, but didn't find out about it 'til I was on my hols and didn't book the Sunday off in time!

Saw a couple of nice Capris and the like drive past, on the way to work. A link would be nice if anyone has uploaded any photos :)

Don't forget any classics welcome at Beighton Funday 8th July.

The Trabi seemed to cause quite a bit of interest and not just pitying looks and shakes of the head.

We were rather disappointed that there wasn't a 'worst in show' prize as we were sure we'd have won as we hadn't washed the car, it arrived on a transporter and the engine bay was full of leaves.

Come to think of it we pobably wouldn't have stood a chance against Batman!

Some may not be captioned accurately, and I was only interested in the British contingent - plus a Ferrari, obviously.

Sorry about that bulldog D.

My interest in old cars is more nostalgia, than appreciation of the marque.

Being born in the very early 50s I just remember the old British 'battlewagons' trundling 'sedately' up and down the streets. By the time the mid 60s came along, they all started to look similar - and there were more about - so lost interest in the 'newer' models. With the exception of Ferrari, foreign classics have never really been of interest to me. As for American 'barges', YUK!!!

Most of the cars in those photos remind me of either someone I knew from the 50s/early 60s, (delivery man, neighbour, family friend etc) or I remember trundling past our house when I was playing out in the front garden in Hackenthorpe.

I only went to Graves Park to look closely at the older British cars anyway really.
