View Full Version : Welcome to the Classic Car Group.
Skatiechik 30-03-2006, 19:00 I am pleased to say "Welcome to the Classic Car Group." Many thanks to Geoff for making this possible.
The idea of the group is to encompass areas such as:-
-Body shop Reccomendations
-Local Garage Reccomendations
-Helpful Motorfactors
-Local Area Meet Ups
-Local Show Reccomendations
and last but not least an area where people with a like minded passion can chat about their vehicles and share advice.
I am the point of contact for the group so if anyone has any questions or problems then feel free to contact me via PM.
I can't think of anything else to say at the moment, other than if you have a passion for classic cars, you either own one, or dream of getting one, then get posting.

BMW e21 mothballed
Triumph Spitfire MKiv 1972
The e30 is exceptionally nice
The e21 is requiring some TLC
and the Spitty needs to have another engine fitted ASAP
so if anyone know's anybody with a spare engine hoist for Sale or one I could borrow I would be most grateful. :help:
bulldog D 31-03-2006, 07:45 Is this only for 4 wheels or can 2 join in?
What do you reckon Skatie
should we let the vehicularly challenged in?
would it be sizest to say NO?
I think he ought to be included as surely it's about Classic transport that's loved by those on the forum
even if it doesn't have a steering wheel.
goldenfleece 31-03-2006, 07:56 Wow what a GREAT idea. At last, drivers of what some non educated people refer to as "old bangers" gain some space!! Prefer an old/classic car ANY day of the week, and would not be seen in a modern car unless it was a taxi!
My collection at present comprises 5 complete MK I FIESTA's, being a 1977 1.1L on 'S' plate (SORN, under restoration) 1977 1100 L on 'R' plate, 1981 1100 L on 'W' plate, 1983 1300 GL on 'X' plate, and another 1981 1100 L currently under some restoration but still active. Always looking for more, and got my eye on 2 on Ebay as we speak....
WISH LIST:
Ultimate classics for me,
FIESTA 1300 Ghia, auto-choke variant, final revision 1983 'Y' plate model, last production run saw heaps of extras before the MK 2 was born...plus seeking various 'special editions of the MK I like the original Firefly, etc
FORD ZODIAC EXECUTIVE MK 4 Manual version, 1972 final revision model before model dropped...
HILLMAN HUNTER GLX, 1971/2 models
CORTINA MK 2 1600 GT, 1971 final revision model before MK 3's
Nothing amazingly sporty there essentially, thats not really me, but I know what I like and I like what I want....
UnkleBob 31-03-2006, 08:54 great idea, Skatie! However, my 93 BMW isn't classic just yet, classy, yes, classic nope...
Skatiechik 31-03-2006, 09:48 Is this only for 4 wheels or can 2 join in?

Sadly it hasn't been on the road for over a year,it needs a spot of welding, any body fancy having a go at it?;)
goldenfleece 31-03-2006, 17:10 where does it need welding exactly?
mega_monty 31-03-2006, 20:32 i used to have a F Reg Fiesta xr2, it was a complete heap, but it was the most fun car i have ever driven
it seemed to get faster rustier it got :)
I have an F reg, MG Metro Turbo, used to get loads of XR2's racing me all the time ;) most of my mates at the time had XR2's but I had the turbo metro to be different and still got it today.
where does it need welding exactly?
Offside front sill,a pain i know, but the inner sills are fine, was thinking about getting it plated and having the sill replaced sometime in the future.
I know plating isn't the way to go but it would be nice to have it on the road again this summer.
AlquarUK 04-04-2006, 15:42 Drop me an e-mail with updates of what you get upto. I run a local cruises with my particular brand of classic car, maybe we can all meet up some time? ;)

Nice to see so many classic car fans.
I,ve got a 1980 Ford Fiesta and a 1984 Sierra XR4i. Hope to see some of you at some shows this year.
I own a 1939 Daimler 18/1 about to finish 4 years of restoration.
I have some pictures at Photobucket but apparently I'm not allowed to post URLs until I've made 15 posts or more!
I also need to rent a garage or small lock up to keep the car in. Can anyone help?

Skatiechik 19-11-2006, 21:56 I was more thinking of catching the bus in for a social meet rather than an attendance with car meet, that is better left to the country pubs with food.

This is the same fate endured by my GTI metro, when EMR came to collect it for scrap, sadly I didn't have my camera at the time.
Thats just evil. No way for a trusted friend to be disposed of.
Skatiechik 23-11-2006, 13:00 Oh dear. How sad :(
mega_monty 24-11-2006, 19:46 Thats just evil. No way for a trusted friend to be disposed of.
Maybe we should have had the vicar to have attened and said a few prayers as my trusty but rusty old friend was being loaded onto the truck.
However they did a good job of securing him to the back of the truck, by smashing the mobile crane through its roof, too late to change my mind now me thinks.
nightwish 27-11-2006, 22:03 the gearbox had gone it still had mot when it went to much work to keep on the road as mini needs my

Had an outing in a moggy 1000 a few years back, biggest laugh i'd had in a long while. I wouldn't mind one but my boyfriend has said no!
Hello all you classic car loving people,
I am not as fanatic as you yet, give me some time. My beloved boyfriend has brought me a convertable 1971 vw beetle for our aniversary (i always wanted one). I was wondering if any of you guys knew of any garages or lock ups for rent in the heeley area where I can keep my new baby??
any help or words of advice would be much appreciated
Many thanks Viki :)
We are renting a garage just off Woodseats Road on Smithy Wood Road. We won't need it once we have moved to our new house. If you pop in and ask for the owner he is usually down there. He has 58 garages where we are and his wife owns some as well.
Thank you for your reply phylis, it is much apreciated!
I will pop down there and have a chat with this guy. where abouts on smithy woods roads is he?
thank you very much :) viki
I think it's Smithy Wood Road, i don't take much notice of road names. If you come up Woodseats Road, from Abbeydale Road, it's the 2nd turn on the left. There is a newsagents on the corner. If you go along this road you go past the pub/club and they are on your right. You can't miss them there are loads of garages there. The bloke who owns them is a very nice chap, he is usually around through the day. There is a gate from the lower deck to the upper deck of garages, his lock up is the first you come to through the gate, he is usually in there. He is very helpful and trys his best to find everyone a garage. He helped us at very short notice.

spencer.mann 29-01-2007, 20:32 Hello, I have a 1963 BMW Isetta, three wheel, right hand drive it needs a total restoration. Anyone fancy lending a hand with the welding/bodywork ?

Brian Revill 03-02-2007, 03:00 Does a 1992 XJS V12 Count as "classic" and do you know if there is a Jag sub-group? Please. BR.
Brian Revill 03-02-2007, 03:00 Duplicated
Yes we love classic cars.have a 1972 Truimph mark 2 beautiful.
1983 Citreon safari estate now ready for its MOT (cross fingers) and just purchased a ford zephyr 1960. If any one can help we need a rear seat or both this is needed for the renovation.
Enjoy your cars everyone out there.
If any of you cars owners could attend our festival Aug 4th we would love it
Skatiechik 01-03-2007, 17:53 Which festival is that?
We took 5years to raise money to do this ex landfill site into a wonderful area. We had an event last year to celebrate with completetion. This year we are using the park again and it is a one day event. The park is situated on wordsworth ave opposite forty foot pub. We do try to raise money this year it is for the mcmillian nurses.
We are a TARA (tenants & Residents Association all volunteers). The date is Aug 4th Saturday. The cars will have to be static display but we could arrange a little run ( convoy to show off our cars, why not) if you so wished. It would be appreciated if we could have your support.
Janetb
Anyone interested in bringing your classic cars please let me know. The Festival on cookson Park wordsworth ave(opp forty foot pub). August 4th 1 day event.
The park has Cycle speedway track to international standard,SKateboard BMX track., 2 junior football pitches, Play areas for up to 5 and older.
It took our TARA (tenants & residents ass) 5 years, lots of begging fund raising and writing bids to achieve the 1.2 million it cost to refurb.
This year we would like to raise money for the McMillian nurses anyone with ideas would be appreciated. Our 3 cars will be there.
Its lovely when people can look around the cars rememeber when they had one or one they always wanted. Btter still it gives us a chance to show our pride and joys.

Sold my 1962 Minor 100 to a person in Germany. Now have a 1934 Wolseley 9 saloon.
What's the Wolsley like? I've been wondering about getting a pre-war car - a Morris Eight perhaps - but wonder if I'd actually drive it much.
sues_budgie 18-06-2009, 22:01 This is a genuine question.
My brother in laws car is a 1989 Honda Accord and its in good condition (looks like a 2005 year car).
Is it now classed as a classic, now its 20 years old? could it go on shows?
The car is used daily, but still in good nick

VW Wedding 31-01-2012, 23:45 Hello!!!! Ok, so reading everything will take me a long time, and to be honest I haven't heard of a few of those cars! But MK1 XR2's, MK1 Escorts and of course pre 68 VW's!
I just thought I'd say hi, and I will hopefully contribute to the classic section, especially if it's to do with vw's!!!!
