i'd be surprised if no one's asked this before, but a quick search didn't yield any results, so...

does anyone use the ignore facility on the forum, and, if so, why? (without going into too much detail, i.e. names of those you ignore!)

Yes, I have 2 forummers on ignore due to disagreements in the past over various issues.

I don't wish to name names though, as I don't want to end up on "enforced holiday" again for baiting.

No-one's pee'd me off enough for me to use it, There have been the occasional irritating oik but vy and large I've been unaffected by the plebian masses.

If they did get on my wick then I'd quite happily use it - {Ohhh Yeahh! Kick ass Mo' Fo' In' Smilie}

I have used it once in the past, when someone was being particularly offensive on a thread in which I was participating. I gave him a few days to cool off, then removed the ignore filter. I wouldn't put anyone on ignore permanently.

Never have and never will.
No matter what you think of someone or their ideas how do you counter them if you can't see what they post.

It isn't their ideas I object to. It's posts which border on the personally offensive.

I didn't know we had an 'ignore'...explains why no one replies to my posts

No one could annoy me that much that i'd want to ignore them, the whole point of a forum is to be able to experience other opinions from your own, it's all tickety-boo.

I can see the point but it's an internet forum and not real life.
People are often not what they seem. I used to argue all the time with one guy until I met him and found he was Ok.
Good mates now.
If someone gets to you just don't bother about it. No point getting high BP over a few words typed on the screen.

Just enjoy a drink with a couple of mates and chill

I have never used it but cant say whether i would or wouldnt in future, altho knowing me i might use it on the spur of the moment but be far to nosey to keep it on. i once had a slanging match with someone about cats and gypsies and they sed they would come down and discuss it face to face, i sed yeah ok but was really nervouse incase it was a right freaky muppet so made Shane stay in shop with me.. turned out the bloke in question was a right top bloke and we had a right laugh.

some people online come across as obnoxious and argumentative cos they just see it as a laugh and really are brill in real life, but it can also go the otherway, folks that have seemed like butter wouldnt melt on line but in real life are real nasty weirdo's.

IMO treat online for what it is a NON real enviroment, but if you do happen to meet real friends/mates then BONUS

I think this subject has been brought up before which made me decide to see how it works. It just spoils the whole look and it's hard to follow the discussion when someone's input is missing.

i cant see the point of it all? I hear also that you dont see the posts of another person which is friggin pointless.

If someone is getting on your nerves tell em to pish off and report them to the mods to have a word with.

What does it do exactly?

I do. I wish it worked better and deleted their presence.
If you have not used it before you get a message that says " This message is hidden because *********** is on your ignore list"

I'd like the 'ignore' function to hide all topics from a particular person. Would make it quicker to look through umpteen pages

Does it still allow you to see their post when it's quoted though?

<-------- see that folks? :help: This technophobe is struggling with this topic. I've read 2 pages on this subject and I'm no wiser! What's the ignore function do? For that matter, where is it located?

Please don't ignore me! :hihi:

You've got a point there Red!!

If you click somebody's username, you can 'add to buddy list' but 'add to ignore list' isn't an option there

I'll put people on iggy when they become so annoying that I find myself getting stressed. If you can't see what they're saying, you don't feel you have to constantly be responding. It would be better if the system just deleted their post completely though imo.

Unfortunately, as Strix says you can still see what they've said if someone quotes it. You can also see them if you don't sign in.

The option is on the buddy list page, it says buddy/ignore. I was there only last night :D

edit to say: I didn't mean delete a post so no-one else can see it lol, I just meant delete it completely from the sight of the person utilising the facility :)

No, it would seem that I don't have to use it.
