As Tony Blair was out of the country yesterdays Prime ministers question time was taken by the deputy prime minister, John Prescott, his exchanges with former Tory leader William Hague were widely reported in the media, largely because of the “humorous” personal side swipes they were taking at each other.
At one point Mr Prescott said that the Tories were supposed to have abandoned Punch & Judy... If he was Punch, where did that leave Mr Hague?”
Even taking into account the “last day at school” euphoria before they take their Easter break am I alone in my dismay that the House of Commons, supposedly the bastion of our democratic society, should be hijacked by two second rate music hall comedians?
With such a disrespectful display for parliament from two public figures is there any wonder that the general public feels such cynicism towards politicians?
