I'm contemplating running the London Marathon next year and I was wondering if any of you folks could give me some inspiration as to what local charities would benefit most from my fundraising? I was going to raise money for cancer research as I have in previous races, but I feel a local charity would benefit more from direct fundraising. Any ideas welcome!!

No broken church roofs that need fixing or hospital ward being closed due to lack of funds?

What about Weston Park Hospital? It is along the same lines as the cancer research but the money would go directly to helping the hospitals patients.
What about the Childrens hospital or a local conservation group?

How about the Cavendish Centre?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I would be grateful if you keep them coming. I trust all you kind hearted people will be prepared to put your hand in your pockets and dig deep when the time comes for me to run. I shall be posting a link on here or maybe selling my charity of choice at meet up closer to the time i.e. next year.

Well, the time on the certificate reads 3 hours 21 mins...but by the time I crossed the start line 15 minutes was already on the clock. It was the last time Nutrasweet sponsored the marathon. It was a very enjoyable day out and I met lots of nice people. Prior to the Marathon I had been forced to really cut down on training because of an injury. I was concerned that I may struggle with the injury and my preparation was not ideal but I didn't want to let the charity and my sponsors down by pulling out. I was capable of running sub 3 hours and that was my intended target but the injury plagued me from 14 miles onwards. I managed to run through the pain and a couple of lovely St Johns girls gave me an excellent massage after the run, I needed it because my muscles were seized. It was a great day and the most enjoyable marathon I have ran. It is on my agenda to run it again one day.
