The following poem was written after I read an insert in Yorkshire Evening Press's Deaths Column in November 2003. The 'death' of someone so precious affected me to the extent that I decided to put my thoughts into words. I appreciate the subject is, to put it mildly, a rather delicate one.

Born asleep, but can I keep her? And someday, someone will sweep her off her feet!
Born asleep, she never had a chance to discover life, love and romance
I'll kiss her tiny hands and bid my baby, Goodnight

Born asleep, she never saw her dad and all that she would have had
Born asleep, a face so pure in peace, while tears cover mine
I'll hold her one last time and bid my girl, Sleep Tight

And she'll be taken from my sight but forever live in my mind
And nine whole months mum and daughter entwined
And my little bundle will be gone from my view - we only shared an hour or two
Daddy will never walk you down the aisle (nor ever see you smile)

Born asleep, we cannot keep her, we quietly whisper: We love you
Born asleep, no-one will harm her; she couldn't look calmer
My little charmer, God bless you

And she'll be taken from our sight but forever live in our lives
Could precious life be ever deemed so cheap
To our Angel who was born asleep?
