Is it as beneficial as ppl say?? Im going to be starting working for them soon, but, although we get really good holidays and pay reviews, surely we have to be more on the ball, no sickness etc??

I have worked for the goverment for just over two years. I love my job . Although there is some dispute over the rates of pay within the union I am happy with my wage . there is the probation period of 30 days if you take too much time off or dont perform to standards you will not be given a permenant contract. I feel safe in my employment theres a secure pension I think you cant really go far wrong if you perform well you can achive promotion, pay rise, bonus ect.. and as for the being on the ball with sickleave. there are ppl in my office who are allways off sick, but are still employed , they do take a dim view on sickleave if it becomes excessive .

sick days in publicly paid for employment average about 2.5 days a year more than in the private sector i believe.
pay on the other hand averages less.
