Anywhere, anywhere, I'd be willing to travel. I've left it too late to go to Republican France or Ireland or the USA. Anywhere at all in South Yorkshire I'm slowly but surely losing it ?

If you wanted to go to the USA to avoid the Jubilee stuff, you should've booked it last week at the very latest :D

What madness?

It's raining. On their parade. Love it.

Pathetic attempts at street parties that struggle to be house parties as the neighbours rightly mutter 'bugger off' and hide behind the curtains.

The fact is it is over whelmingly under supported. A fiction created by the media that somewhere out there people throng in a show of mass support for what exactly? An out moded out dated priveledged dysfunctional family of adulterers not fit to rain on us let alone over us, ex-tax dodging, unemployed benefit scrounging millionaires.

When I was in my 30s, if I'd have been thinking of doing it with a 15 year old called Diana, quite rightly I'd have been called a perv. Charles married her. And wasn't that a love match made in Devon or Whitehall or wherever affairs of state [ and what a state of affairs ] are decided.

Roll on death as it can't be worse than this.

Let's have our own South Yorkshire Republican tea party on Monday. I'll be there and so will many others.

Don't believe what the BBC would like us to think is true. I would think there are more against than for.

What madness?

If I had a £1 for everyone who came in today and asked for either flags, bunting, other any other Union Jack stuff, I'd have at least £50 extra in the till! Unfortunately, we sold out of most stuff last week, just when it was too late to get anything else in stock. People are only now getting IPM.

A lot of people are looking forward to having 3 days off and having parties with family and friends, and for many of them it's nothing to do with the Queen having been on her throne for the past 60 years, just an excuse to partaayy!

Personally, I'm looking forward to watching the flotilla sail past tomorrow. Just relax and enjoy it, don't be such a mardyarse. :D

... When I was in my 30s, if I'd have been thinking of doing it with a 15 year old called Diana, quite rightly I'd have been called a perv. Charles married her. And wasn't that a love match made in Devon or Whitehall or wherever affairs of state [ and what a state of affairs ] are decided...What on earth are you on about ... he was born in 1948 and she was born in 1961 ... she was 20 and he was 32 when they got married after a whirlwind 'romance'.

Are you seriously saying that he was interested in her when she was 15? He was dating her sister at the time. It's said that she decided at that point that one day she would be the Princess of Wales.

He should have married Camilla in the first place and saved everyone a lot of pointless drama. I like that he was kinder to his son than his parents were to him over his choice of a life partner.

I'm annoyed that I'm having to defend Charles Windsor over this, but if you're going to have a go about something, at least try to get your facts right. *sigh*

And personally, I'd prefer a false patriot to a killjoy any day of the week.

Thank God I'm not alone ! I remember the 1977 Jubilee and the Charles Dianna Wedding and you do get the impression you're on your own. At least we had a shindig at Weston Park called the "Wedding Free Zone" where there was at least some sanctuary.

As for the media, as someone once wrote "manufacturing consent", seems apt.
It does all seem quite oppressive, wear a silly red white and blue bowler hat show artificial bonhommie or have someone like RubyD telling you you're miserable

All those that don't like it, and bleat about it, you know you can emigrate. We've had a monarchy for centuries. Move to far off 'bongo bongo' land or some presidential state, you know it's part of our heritage, if you don't like it,stop whinging and move.

Me too. There's plenty of bunting & stuff round here, a large party arranged by the local church tomorrow and a few street parties in the area. Only the weather has let us down. We'll have a good time anyway and let all the whining, whinging individuals sit behind their curtains & moan endlessly about every event that happens in this country!

But people don't need flags and bunting to decorate their houses every day of the week. That would look a bit silly and leave them with nothing to do when there is something special happening.

I survived!!!

Turned off the "news" to watch cookery programmes this morning. Then watched Blackadder on some bizarre channel, then tennis, then Have I got News for You, then football...and I believe Lord of The Rings is on soon!

Plus I didn't buy the special Jubilee sausages from Chris Beach and I didn't hang around the tent on "Walkley Green" eating cake.

I've done well. French wine and Spag Bol to end the day. Not a Union Jack (Flag for the pedants) in sight.

Exactly. People are so miserable why dont they just get into the spirit. I put some bunting outside (the only one on the street but I dont care!) Not particularly a royalist but its good for the country to come together and celebrate. I wish our street was having a party and as yet havent heard of much going on in Sheffield in parks etc. We should celebrate being British and be proud that we are I am!

What does a German family who are on the throne through an accident of birth have to do with Britain?

If you were really proud to be British you would celebrate Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Charles Babbage, Alan Turing, Alexander Graham Bell, Frank Whittle, etc etc etc rather than someone who is able to stand up, walk about, wave and appear on balconies.

No, but the Royal Family are a part of this country and when significant events happen in their lives, people tend to celebrate in a sort of street party, wave a little Union Flag sort of way. That seems quite traditional.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-02/queen-elizabeth-s-property-income-rises-9-400-ft-reports.html

Queen Elizabeth II’s property rental income has surged 9,400 percent during her 60-year reign, increasing at three times the inflation rate over that period, the Financial Times said, citing figures from the Crown Estate, the company that owns the monarch’s land and buildings.

Quite.

If the Royal Family are german, are immigrants that weren't born here allowed to call themselves British? How about their children that were born here?

The Queen was born in England. So were her parents, and grandparents. Prince Philip was born in Greece and has never lived in Germany. So how exactly are the royal family German?
